Why don't we split up EVE servers into shards?

It would especially please the investors since it would make all their money disappear.

That's zoning, not sharding.

Posting on this character because apparently some people get upset when they're asked difficult questions. M.

bad idea, it would kill this game. Only thing that keeps this game alive is this unique single shard universe experience. No other mmo outhtere on internet can claim to suport 40000+ simultainious players on same gameworld...

But as bad ideas goes im going to present even worse one. lets put all missions etc, as intances.... Yeah i can imagine griefer tiers over this one if ccp would be grazy enought to shoot them in leg... Oh wait... they are, based on knows histoty of ccp blunders so far...

And all the miners could mine and mine and mine and then couldn't sell any of their minerals because the giant pack of risk averse faggots never lose ships.

The end.

Oh dear. Where are these people from?
Start playing Singelsharded SciFi Hardcore Space MMO.
Go to Forums and complain about:

  • Singelsharded
  • SciFi
  • Hardcore (most of them)
  • Space (they want SimCity on planets and WiS)
  • MMO (all the others are so mean *whine**whine*)

all goons would log in to the highsec miner shard.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

I think I'm detecting some tongue-in-cheek trollery going on here.

If I'm wrong about that then, no, very bad idea that would most definitely not please everyone.

I'm not completely happy with the way unprovoked aggression is dealt with, but creating segregated divisions is not the way to go - it would destroy the whole premise of the game.

I'm not in favour of sharding, but at least try and use some logic as to why it's good or bad, as so far nobody has provided any evidence either way. The ones that claim that Eve is a single universe have missed the point that once upon a time Eve had 10,000 people online at the same time and the players enjoyed the game. Remind me again how that is different from 4 shards of 10,000 players each?

Because it reduces the meaning of those players choices.

In EVE, if I make a choice, it changes the whole server, and is part of history because there is only 1 world.

In a multi server world a choice means nothing because people can just go to the other server and ignore it. It is no longer a permanent part of the games history.

EDIT: oh yeah, and 1 more server would effectively double CCPs operating costs, and a 3rd would triple, and so on, which makes it economically unfeasible.

You do realise on your "pvpless mining love in" shard, your minerals are going to be worth **** all, as no one dying means incredibly low mineral demand, throw in the fact everyone is mining and enjoy your 0.2isk a unit trit.

I lied :o

Chinese shard?

Also, Goons are like parasites, they cannot survive without their host.

Not strictly true. parasites make a point of not harming their host - if they harm their host to an undue extent, their host could die or fight back.
