If you want to get technical, I'll bet Saladtosser or whatever his name is's posts could count as hate speech. Since he is completely trivializing the holocaust. It's pretty much right next to outright denying it.

You do realize that they are referring to real groups of people, not fictitious ones like space miners right?

Most of this game is based on the hatred of, killing of, enslaving of fictitious groups of people based on race and/or religious back ground. Key word being fictitious.

Mining asteroids is a fictitious vocation, at least for the moment.

I can freely state "death to all Minmatar" without fear of censure (although possibly at risk of some laughter). I can also freely state "I hate all asteroid miners."

Why? Because it's a game, dumbass.

In fact, I could quote word for word the most infamous hate doctrines in recorded history and simply swap whomever they originally referred to with the term "space miner"... and you know what it would be when I was done?

Hilarious, if in admittedly bad taste.

It's odd how some of the names involved in these ideologies are censored on this forum. In theory you should be able to spam them at will.

Anyway, quoting the past monsters is a dangerous game.

RL too is a game of consequences.


There's always, always, always the possibility of an idiot who will read these hideous apologies and, unable to discern between fictional game and RL, he will go buy a gun and kill a dozen RL people.

If this happens, I hope they will track the player behind the hate sources on the forum and put him in jail as accomplice.

So he will learn (no, who am I kidding) to write with more responsibility in the future.

To the OP

Thank you for opening this topic. I, too, believe that there is too much hatred and that it has gone one step too far.

But, this is not CCP's problem.

CCP's problem is the fact that it endorses this hatred and encourages even more bullying. CCP's problem is the fact that finds this level of friction between people "OK".

I read some of that locked post...

What got to me was they guy was saying what miners think about gankers is wrong because the miners don't know why gankers gank, but surely the gankers know exactly why the miners mine.

Then we got people here going above and beyond the meaning of posts just to cause hatred.

Perhaps if people looked at it like everyone is just trying to enjoy the game how they like, it would be good.

Be respectful of people and their ideas and opinions even if you don't agree. Be decent enough to at least see both sides.

I read James' thread when it was first posted.

Whilst I wholeheartedly disagree and consider it the ramblings of a crazed lunatic who needs to be confined to a mining barge for a few weeks, I appreciate that it was a well written, impassioned manifesto (a public statement of belief)

Nothing in there is remotely related to 'hate speech' or 'hate crime' and anyone drawing such parallels is either trolling or is in serious need of learining what real hate crime feels like.

Yes, the language could potentially be considered inflamatory and even provocative, but it is in the context of a video game and maintains that distinction.


I'd like to be respectful of characters and their ideas and sense of entitlement to sit inactive in asteroid belts in ships dripping with expensive goodies, but I'd rather write a note on the error of their ways on a large missile and jam it real hard up their exhaust vents and take their stuff for myself.

In all honesty, I'm not a ganker at heart, but if so many characters are going to be sitting around just waiting for me to make a fortune off taking thier stuff, I'm going to fill my boots. And it makes me feel better about all the moaning that results.

I'll continue to mine every day unmolested, and I'll continue my new found ganking business that is raking in fun and profit. (I would ststae that personally, I bump barges and very conspicuously lock them up and give them a chance to warp out - if they're AFK, I'm taking their toys and selling them.)
