Because everything is meant to be done solo in EVE Online the popular singleplayer MMO

Of course it is! Why else would they put you in a single player corp the moment you join the game. Duh!!

For the chat channel, of course, so you have something vaguely interesting to do while single playering about.

Not sure "interesting" is what I'd call it.

I personally like to think of it as minimized to avoid retardation. There's only so much of watching people argue about whether or not someone should spend their money on +4 implants that a person can take.

Nope. Their being T2 is not a factor.

Oh look the stupid thread is getting stupider by the minute. You are all dumber, and me too, for having read this drivel and for allowing this thread to stay bumped. So let it die like the rest of the stupid whine threads and have a beer! It's the weekend. Enjoy it! Don't stress over some silly little sodden whine post.

I'm writing this to see what the General consensus is out there regarding the validity & usefullness of the exhumer & industrial barge Class ships with the ongoing suicide ganking in high sec ..

My Personall opinions are that, as it Stands, if CCP does not beef them up , or beef up the police response in high sec systems then they would be just as well removing these classes from the game .

My reasoned thought on the removal of these classes are that most industrialists can mine safer in a Battleship than a barge in High sec whilst having a sufficient enough tank to make it not worthwhile for Gankers . Whereas in the barge class hulls there are insufficient slots to do so So whats the point in the Class ?

Would like to hear other Reasoned approaches to why they should go or stay ..

You're on the right track with the question, however, if you start from the premise that all elements, that is mining, exploration, missioning, etc,..., exist in EVE to create PVP targets then the question changes from micro-management to one of macro-management. It's no secret the foundation EVE was built on was PVP and its gaming philosophy centers around it. Unfortunately the way EVE is advertised suggest it is more than just a PVP game and you can "forge your own destiny." What you're really after is a balanced game not just balancing of ships.

What happened in EVE especially over the last two years is EVE the game matured, but CCP's philosophy stayed stagnant. EVE is more than just a PVP game now. Until the games philosophy catches up with the game itself, CCP will be caught in an endless loop of micro-management. It will be an endless loop because they will always balance the game with respect to its foundation of being PVP intensive, thus creating imbalance with the other elements.

Here's an examples of how the mining element was established to create PVP targets (taken from a different forum thread):

-- Hulk's are paper thin. Unrealistic since they operate close to asteroids. They are intentionally this way for PVP and ganking. Think about it, icebreakers have some of the thickest hulls there are. Do you honestly think some race intelligent enough to navigate and live in space would navigate close to rocks in a paper thin hull? Now add on top of that a hostile environment and you see how virtually unrealistic the Hulk is.

Eventually, CCP will either wake up and realize no one gaming element in EVE can continue to be more important than another,... and EVE will become a "virtual universe" as advertised. Or, CCP will continue on the PVP intensive course and the game will be replaced by another gaming entity or group of people that can offer the same thing but balance all the elements into a virtual universe.

Not really. We're talking about a ship line that is generally flown in high-sec by a bunch of whiny, entitled, AFK idiots who actually don't play the game, not combat ships that generally require that you pay some attention to the game.

Also, most high-sec exhumer pilots can't be bothered to protect their investment (and that means more than insurance). vOv

What a bunch of misinformation. Oh and in high sec you can not protect anything. All you can do is get revenge after the fact.
That is the problem and it can not be fixed by nerfing this or that. The game needs a stand your ground rule so that you can actually protect something in high sec. And no that is not whining for a nerf. It is loking for an active player based combat rule for high sec.
Those AFK miners will still be toast if they are not actively playing under such a stand your ground rule.

A Catalyst is shooting you

You shoot it with something

hint: going GCC makes you a valid target in hisec

npc alts have no opinions worth consideration

This is very true. It's the reason why I didn't even undock my new T3 until I had figured out a nice, quiet low-sec station to store it in between exploration runs. It being in low-sec makes it much easier to manage the risk on my investment.

It already technically has one, it's just that gankers generally blow up your ship before you can actually stand your ground, lol.

Have a buddy or alt in a gank dessie of your own, and preemptively kill anyone acting slightly suspicious? (and obviously, move afterward so you are not there when they come for revenge)

You don't need nearly as much gank to kill them, so you can sebo your ship out the wazzoo, get the drop on them, and prevent your hulk from dying.

Oh yeah, can't do that AFK.

Oooor people could stop being lazy morons and actually fit a tank, not AFK, not bot, and generally not be, well, entitled morons thinking that CCP should "fix" the game around their bad habits.

You can fairly easily make it impossible to cost effectively gank your Hulk. There are several ways to do this.

1) Tank it, (makes the expected payout and the cost to gank even, so no expected profit)
2) Tank it with RR, (cost to gank skyrockets, no possible way to profit)
3) Tank it and have a Tornado/Mael ready to blap any dessie who goes GCC (pushes the cost of 1 up by 2-3 dessies i.e. no profit)

There are also TONS of ways to avoid gankers or reduce/nullify their impact on you.

All of those are ways to protect your investment.

If you say "Oh, well 6 Tornadoes..." yes, they'll kill you. At a cost of 380m. So ask yourself what you did to **** them off.
I keep my freighter loads to under a billion isk, so I don't have to worry about being Cost Effectively ganked. If someone does gank me for the lulz, at least I can be secure in the knowledge that they lost money. Everything can be ganked, but that's not actually relevant here so long as the Hulk can be tanked such that it can't be ganked for a profit.

Perhaps CCP can also remove miners that insist on going AFK, mine in high traffic area's, refuse to share intel or set standings towards known gankers, refuse to take reasonable defense precautions, refuse to align their ships, and refuse to take any of the of the precautions that every other ship class in the game must take to operate successfully in a hostile environment.

Oh wait, as so often happens in EVE, the player base is taking care of the problem themselves.

You're full of ****. My buds and I fail ganked a Hulk today. Why? He had a tank. A damn good tank. When every one got their first round or two off and his shields barely moved we knew. He survived. And he was given well deserved props.

So don't run your muckety muck carebear attitude up in here because you know jack of what you speak. I admit to fail exhumer ganks 'erryday if they're tanked right. Ender Malikite was his name. Good job mate. gjgj070707

They are not dead unless people stop buying them. I always knew I would never buy a hulk. The mining/cargo increase it gives over a covetor in no way justifies the huge price.

How close do the destroyers get to the hulks when ganking?

Hulks don't necessarily have the longest targeting range, and the drones do have a travel time.

But can drones kill a ganker faster than concord?
