Making Fun of Eve Absurdities ... it's okay I still pay for it for some reason.

So, we live in this high tech universe with some truly fantastic technology. And yet in their attempt to "balance" a "sandbox" game, they have felt the need to do things like this:

Ship Related Fun:

1 - All factions decide to create Huge ships to place their very valuable cargo, and yet it's impossible for this ship to generate enough power grid and CPU to fit a module on it... What engineer thought of that brilliant idea?

Engineer: "Lets make a ship to carry Huge amounts of valuable cargo... but it shouldn't be much better than a flying can."
Intern: "But sir what if it could at least fit an armor repair system or warp core stabilizer?"
Engineer: "He has no future in this corporation; submit him to the biomass re-processor..."

2 - Mining barges... Why? Why do they exist? ORE decided to make a set of ships for the rest of Eve to prey upon. If I had engineered barges.. why not be able to point those lasers that make short work of giant asteroids at other ships? They are lasers after all combined with a tractor beam. Why are they so slow? They barely have any HP so they must be relatively light... Is their warp locking system driven by tired hamsters?

Structures:

1 - You can anchor containers, you can anchor mobile warp disruptors but there's no way to set up anchored sentry guns anywhere other than on POSes.

Innovative young Engineer: "Sir, could we spare some power grid and CPU from our Fully Functional Station (which can store unlimited ships) in Null, in order to set up a couple sentry guns outside."
CCP Approved Engineer: "No."
Innovative young Engineer: "Oh?"
CCP Approved Engineer: "..."

Gameplay:

1 - People who have something against "afk miners"... I'm not a miner myself, but if you think about it in a sober way for a second, you realize one thing. Eve is designed to be AFK while doing a lot of various things. They didn't make mining interesting enough to actually look at it constantly...
Then what about AFK sitting in station? (Everyone does this one.)
What about AFK cloaking? (this one is kind of meh...)
*AFK mission running. (Drones can help with this a little)
And my favorite AFK of all... AFK for a month while i wait for the training queue because I could be playing something that I can actually use cooler stuff sooner than Eve in gameplay.

I think Eve was meant to be played on AFK status unless you're PvP'ing. There's a lot of waiting in Eve... might as well be AFK. That way you can play different game. Lol

Feel free to add other absurdities that stand out to you... I'm sure there's plenty more I'm not thinking of right now.

People don't play EVE they make comments about it on the internet while their bots run.

Even when logged off eve is played, training queues train, orders fill, pos's eat blocks, PI runs, etc...

I foresee this thread going places, but I didn't use any scifi space magic because that would be absurd.

Absurd?

Being in a 500 vs 500 blob just pressing whatever the FC tells you and jumping when FC tells you is AWSOME and requires skills yet mining is frowned upon as being skillless and for the braindead.

No not a miner myself btw Blink

Playing markets with 100 B isk on a roll not being sure if those items will go up or down in value is being a carebear yet pvping in a rifter in a 20 man gang vs 5 while you have 2 B in the wallet is not.I think the marketboy is setting more isk at risk Lol.

yes i am a marketeer Blink

I totaly enjoyed this one, thanks for making my day :D

And now my .02 isk:
Repackaged ships. How can i turn a ship into 1/10 of its volume just to make the transportation easier? Do we have any magical button that will process the ship into a perfect cube/sphere and another button to shape it back to the original form?

I dunno, the fact that my big complex Lego castle I built today can be easily deconstructed into a package that is only fraction of the castle's volume puzzles me too.

I find it funny that ship velocities are... slooooooooow.

300 meters per second is 1080 km/h, or about 675 mph.

Basically, ships in EVE have speeds comparable to speeds reached for airplanes by the 1960s.

Good thing they're manufactured in space. I'm not sure if New Eden has any technology capable of propelling a ship fast enough to reach the escape velocity of a terrestrial planet.

Unless they're using their warp drives to get from a planet's surface to escape a their atmospheres.

how about this for absurd, system upgrades....

let's put a beacon in the system that will draw pirates to this system so we can kill them. No they'll never get tired of it, in fact the more we do it, the more will show up.

According to the lore, Warp cores generate a fluid WD of about 40 to any ship, which probably means the slow speeds, what could be the case is that right now, moving does not take any energy at all., yet you need an AB or MWD to go faster which also takes energy, which could mean...

Could mean that the ships in EvE are designed to use their own power source, an independent circuit from the main circuit for the Ship modules. Meaning that sticking on a MWD or AB is the equivalent of sticking another thruster that connects to the same circuit of the modules.

I mentioned earlier that many things that are absurd are probably the result of CCP thinking about balance... not that their logic is right or matters, even if they allow mining barges to have twice more HP or allow the Providence to fit modules or turrets to defend itself against a frig, it probably will not be used to turn the tide of a sov battle. Its still not a dread or carrier. They will simply be a bit harder to kill. ORE Corporation was not thinking about the safety of the people that pilot their ships when they made those barges. To be honest, I think they just wanted to sell something for the already neglected miners of eve... Cool

.........

On another note ships in Eve are indeed really slow, I guess they just want to achieve a little bit of speed relative to eachother... Lol no eve ship should get too close to a planet or sun while being warp scrammed since it may fall out of orbit at such low speeds.... P

..........

And yeah the rats are a true mystery of eve... they want to be destroyed lmao.

...........

*Another weird thing is that you cant engage your warp drive in the direction that your ship is moving... The computer has to "Lock" to something. There is no manual override... Manual override would be fun to play with for warping around... it should probably be hard to control distance at which you stop but certainly would be fun.

*Also you can store unlimited number of ships in a station hehe Maybe they have a space collapsing unit or something that compacts things to the size of individual atoms heheh... but please dont make storage limited that would suck.

This isn't a complaint at all, but I've always found it extremely amusing that an insurance company willfully insures combat ships. Lol

So close...

Having seen how many people have great difficulties to perform those simple tasks without a chaos - yes, it has some of awesome. But once you master a basics, it becomes rather dull, I admit.

I think if a game were designed with a similar vision as Eve has in mind today, the underlying mechanics would be completely different. A lot of things could be done much better, but maybe at the time that Eve was made, the server power just wasn't there or computers weren't fast enough (I'm not an expert nor do I know much about it so it' s just a guess).

There are indeed a great many things in eve that don't make sense from a physic or lore perspective. However game balance is by FAR the more important consideration.

Lol Stop Sucking Up peeps, this is a thread to humorously point out things that are absurd relative to the eve universe, not mechanics.... I care not about a game mechanics perspective. Just imagine living in the Eve universe, then you will understand the thread.

How about flying a mega-sized spaceship whilst having an out of body experience which includes a pointer and a mouse which you use to stear it
