Giving it another go

Hello everyone. I've just resubbed to give this game another try. I've played off and on for a few months and I really do like the game but I've not been able to find enough PvP to keep me interested. I joined a PvP "school" and roamed with them a bit and actually got to shoot some people but the pace was really slow and the kills were very few and far between. Eventually the guy running the school disbanded the corp and I unsubbed shortly after.

I'll try to keep this short as possible but I want to give a little background info so maybe someone can help me find what I'm looking for in this game. I'm not really a "group pvp" type person but I'm not entirely opposed to it. I realize that it may be necessary for me to do some more fleeting in order to learn some things about pvp but if given the choice I would rather solo.

I consider myself a casual player and don't care to spend days grinding NPCs to replace ship losses so I'd like to keep things cheap, T1 frigates and maybe cruisers or destroyers when I feel confident enough to risk them. I actually tried this once with a new character (kind of an experiment actually) by creating a new character, buying a cheap frigate and never leaving low sec except to buy supplies that couldn't be found elsewhere. In the week I spent ratting around low sec I never really found any viable targets. The only frigates I saw were Dramiels and the cruisers were T2. Some did chase me but I managed to get away which was good experience I guess. Overall it was a pretty non-eventful experience.

So I'm back again to get it another go. Any tips? Should I try null sec this time? Should I join FW? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Come join the Amarr Militia in FW. Just be prepared to lose ships and get podded until you learn what you are doing. And then be prepared to lose ships and occasionally get podded...

Have some background in turn, since I was in a similar position to yours in late march: I joined FW on either my first or my second day, and registered my first loss within a few days. My no-skills solo answer to FW minor plexes was a long-range coercer and warping out before I got pointed - so, not a lot of kills, but I wasn't bored. I spent about a month training up nothing but drones, which I pretty much hate now - and again, not much kills, but a little bit of frustration (people who don't check pilot age ran from fights in which they had pretty good odds of killing me), but still not bored.

By the end of April, these things had happened: I started training gunnery, I joined ARETR, I started flying ships with points that did damage with guns. Kills by month before May: 0 and 5. Kills in May: 75.

Summarizing your post by paragraph, you want

1. a lot of pvp
2. independence in your pvp
3. an isk source / to be able to fight in cheap stuff.

So yeah, join FW. #1 is definitely here. #2 is here both in your ability to easily join and fly about solo, but also still here in that you can fly about somewhat independently in a plexing gang while being ready for an escalation - someone gets point, or pointed. Maybe a bunch of t1 frigs will swarm a Drake two systems over. Maybe an Amarr-to-Minmatar FW farming alt in a Tengu will be spotted. Maybe a Rupture will be seen to have an offensive name, and need to be hounded all the way to Gallente lowsec. Stuff like that.

#3 is... well, if you believe people who are effectively arguing that an Imperial Navy Slicer will eventually sell in trade hubs for well more than twice the price of a Stabber Fleet Issue, isk is plentiful in all militias. I think Amarr were given the shaft by the Inferno rollout, but that the shaft is more of a bolt that has gone through and left the body, rather than a spear that continues to pierce the body and must be yanked out if the body's to live. The damage is done, but it's also mostly in the past, and we'll soon be out of CCP's "why don't you all just **** off and die?" bracket of LP offers.

Which is all a nice way to say: join anyone but Amarr and #3 will be provided as well.

EDIT: Although #3 (after the slash) is still present in that you can fly and be effective in cheap stuff. T1 frigs just got buffed; Crucifiers and Griffins are cheap ships that tip the scales in minors (ship-restricted to T1 frigs, faction frigs, and destroyers).

Other isk sources in lowsec: radar/mag sites, combat exploration sites, plexing and then selling the tags the rats drop, doing security missions for non-FW agents, popping into wormholes, popping through wormholes to rat in nullsec. Or if you expect to be more productive in the future, and aren't tempted to fly ****-fit Dramiels with T2 hybrid rigs and faction lasers with officer mids, then one PLEX can easily fund a month of losses.

what they said. Amarr FW is the best playground for constant fights imo as they are surrounded by the Minmitar. In addition, you can plex to in order to make money and fight at the same time; winning the fight wins you more isk ( in the form of lp). how cool is that?! Way cool. I am pleased to find an area in eve where pve + pvp are seemlessly combined so that ur pvp efforts compliment you pve efforts, and vice versa

More casual pvp is RvB. They have their pros + cons. ie: high sec, + purple status low sec roams., lots of WTs. You can expect to just log on, jump in a fleet and go pew. But their pvp is also restricted by rules of engagement, and mainly alot of frigate blobbing.

Ok I'll give FW a shot. I can just join a NPC corp to get into that right? Thanks for the replies.

As long as you want to focus on casual solo pvp, particularly involving destroyers/frigs in and around minor plexes, the NPC militia corp will serve you fine. If you want to get in on fleet action, you'll really want to join a player FW corp.

Sounds like a spy fishing for a corp invite.

Just the opposite actually. I prefer to play alone when able.

You can safely ignore everything LooknSee says. Yeah, joining the NPC corp ('enlist' in the militia window) is a start.

I'm thinking your corp probably has a lot of spies in it.

Join Red vs Blue and never look back. Best casual play corp/alliance in the game. Eve uni is good for new players but RvB is the best imo for new and casual players. Dedicated players will have tons of fun ofc since the pew pretty much never stops.

FW is for you, join one of the NPC corps. You need 0.0 or higher faction standings. Use the sov complexes to limit your opponent's ship size. (Minors for t1 frigs and dessies). Highly recommend just rolling in a destroyer though as t1 frigs are still completely outclassed by them.

FW is pretty good fun. If you find a couple others to roam around in, it'll be a blast.
