Best off grid t3 booster/prober?

It is about that time where I am going to start an alt account that is training for off grid boosting, probing, and general scouting. I know the general skills to make the actual booster/probe scout, but am unsure of which t3 to train into. I have heard that the Legion and Loki are pretty good at this, but want to get some other opinions from people who have actual experience with off grid booster t3's.

When it is trained (about 250 days for t2 links and everything else) it will mostly be used as a forward scout/booster in small gang or to find juicy target WH's where I would most likely be flying a curse/pilgrim/cloaky proteus solo, or possibly with 1 other person.

Any suggestions. tips, and fits are much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I personally trained probing skills/covert ops first then decided I wanted to go the boost route (It's not gonna get nerfed...) I then for loki/ lvl 5 defensive subsystem and cybernetics 5, remapped for social and am working on skirmish links.

For small gang, the loki is the most useful, especially because it can give useful bonuses to both armor and shield fleets. That being said, are you 100% sure you will be flying only in small gangs 250 days from now? It maybe worth it to train amarr or caldari (if you can guess the chance of flying armor or shield primarily).

You might find yourself in a WH POS siege defense 250 days from now, forming up an armor BS fleet and those legion boosts giving each BS ~100k ehp extra would seem quite nice.

As for fitting the loki, the new overclocking rig is perfect.

Yeah my plan at the moment since it is going to be started from a WH PI alt is finish covops/probe skills, cybernetics 5 for +5 implants, then start pushing towards the Loki (any skills that take int/mem) then remap to char/will and do the leadership skills and any other skills that were perception/will or the like. Comes out to about 250 days give or take.

It is highly unlikely that I would be doing POS defense, and if I am there will be more than just myself as a booster to fill the other roles. I also am not a big fan of large fleet warfare. It is boring as hell since you mostly call a primary and cycle through to see who wins the war of attrition.

The loki does look good though as, from looking at the skirmish links, it appeals to what I am planning on flying most (shield Curse/1600mm Pilgrim). I think I saw a fit that can put in 4 warfare links (would run the 3 skirm and then a shield boost or armor), but I do believe I lose the Interdiction Nullifier sub which I may want if I am doing scouting.

CCP is making noise about removing off grid boosting. Your 250 day plan may leave you a sad panda.

Any panda is a good panda.

Worst comes to worse I have a Loki flying toon with maxed booster/probing/PI/research skills to sell.

Edit: Also, is this noise coming from the CSM that is pushing their agenda, or did CCP realize that getting massive boosts from anywhere in the system is a bit.... unbalanced to say the least?

The best compliment to the cloaky Proteus you mentioned is a boosting Legion. Fully skilled with the armor warfare mindlink, it can add another 100k ehp to a Prot - and that gives you a lot more options for tanking Sleepers while taking on a farming target or even two. A lot of cloaky Prot fits already have a bonus to point range and an MWD, so the Loki's boosts aren't so immediately useful.

That said, an small-gang Arazu boosted by a max-skilled Looki has a stupid point range - 90km+ with a faction dispruptor, iirc. Your mates with love you long time, and your Arazu will last a while too:)

As a side note - For sheer numbers of links it's the Tengu. It's the only T3 that can run six T2 links simultaneously with just a T2 fit and a couple of the new OC rigs. This is usually used as a POS-based booster, since it's paper-thin and non-cloaky.

For gangs: Loki

For solo work: Legion.

I think I will end up having to do the Loki and Legion both then. What is another 50ish days in the grand scheme of things?

Now the question at hand is should I just go straight through everything training the warfare specs to 5 for t2 in one go, or set it up to train all the specialist skills to 4 and then take them to 5 at the end?

Are the t2's worth getting right away or can I squeak by with t1's until the end?

if youre training a booster, you want ALL cruisers to 5...

Meh cloaky nullified off-grid boosting is definitely something that should be fixed. Until then go with Loki.

So? After a few months of people with falcon alts being butthurt, they became rampant again.

I don't think even a fix regarding off-grid boosting would hurt T3's in being superior to Fleet Command Ships in any way, but it's a start.
