Why do you play Eve?

I play Eve for player driven content. Expansions in other MMOs change the world its played in and change or extend the storyline.

Expansions in Eve add or modify existing game elements and mechanics but do not change the world. Players change the world.

So get your asses out there and start generating content! Big smile

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

I take it, you have not been asked to fly logistics yet?

Eek - there is something like an healer in EVE? Shocked

I am doomed now. I got the healer's role in every MMOG I played. And I always wanted to be the tank. Oops

Don't worry, everyone can tank in EVE! They really have to if they want to last more than a few seconds. But, yes, Logistics is "healing" in EVE. If you want, you can watch the next Alliance Tournament coming up. It shows a lot of different roles, including Logistics.

I play EVE because it makes me think.
It can be relaxing. (Crunching rocks while I listen to music.)
It can be an adrenaline rush. (PVP)

There aren't many persistent open world pvp games around anymore and this one is sci-fi. This is the only one that lets me go in someone's mission, kill them and take their stuff. I've been banned in other "open world pvp server" games for doing things that are considered a profession here. Twisted

Best part is you can be whatever you want at whatever time you want (to some degree).
Some days, I'm the healer ... some days I'm the tank ... other days I'm the miner relying on both of those guys, or the completely un-tanked scout, or suicide-tackle ...

The ability to communicate with and often get quick responses from the developers through the forums and Twitter are a significant factor in my long term enjoyment of the game. The devs have become part of the sandbox.

Happy Pink Day CCP Punkturis!

I play EVE because it's a harsh, cruel place. I will probably continue to do so as long as it stays that way. I don't know if I should be concerned about the amount of posts on the forums lately that are arguing for CCP to make hisec a safe sanctuary for everyone to give each other cuddles. I fear CCP may be listening to them.

I never really liked traditional MMOs, always looking for the 'odd one out'...the last different one I've played was Entropia Universe, another sandbox game, except there grinding is just too much and you have to pay with your own cash if you want to get ahead (it's an RCE game). And now I'm here and loving it even more than Entropia. Hm, come think of it, I haven't touched that one for a months, since I landed to Eve...

OK, serious answer: Because it doesn't hold my hand, nor does it even try to so do. I achieve, or fail, largely on my own merits (or lack thereof).

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

Spaceships.

And more illusion of freedom to play as I like than other games.

And spaceships. In space.

A little over 4 1/2 years ago, a coworker told me about this online game thing that had spaceships and stuff.

A week later, my best friend told me about this online game thing that had spaceships and stuff.

I went out and bought a computer. Downloaded EVE. It had spaceships and stuff.

I play for the spaceships and stuff.

EVE is my mistress, or so my wife tells me.

Player community, player-driven economy, sandbox - you can do what you want and where you want.
Limitless possibilites.
Doesn't require to grind 10 hours daily to get high-grade items, skills and levels.
One BIG universe with a lot of players online at the same time - can't be arsed.
