Looking to get into the Merc trade

I am a new player to eve and was wondering if anyone could give me the basics on getting into the Merc for hire trade,

as in starting ships and ships to aim for also the starting skills and best ones. Any advice would be greatly appriciated

Learn to fly a T1 frigate like a Rifter, Merlin or Incursus. Train to fully Tech II fit it. Get out there.
