I have been reading posts and people are talking about finding something in a safe spot by locating them on D-Scan and then warping around dropping bookmarks trying to get "on grid" Can someone that knows explain this process to me as it relates to finding an object or ship in space using solely the D-Scan? This is a skill i want to master.

Looked up...saw this F***ING clown dropping like a rock.  Woke up in Vylade wondering what just happened!!!

OP - Original Poster if context is a person who started a thread or Original Post if you talk about a post starting a thread

In the context of game balance discussion, "OP" also stands for "overpowered". You might see it used that way in other forum posts from time to time. ;)

I checked that thread and it is the one that started my question in the first place. The OP talks about finding a scanning ship in a safe spot by D-Scanning and then flying back and forth dropping bookmarks.

Can i assume that you would have to time hitting the bookmark button with where your ship is physically in spcace during your warp past the person your trying to find?

IE. warp to planet and on the way drop a BM. then warp to that BM and try to warp to another celestial or object that is in line with where you think the target is.......

Yep, this is how it's done. But as OP of that thread mentioned it took him 200 or so BMs so your target has to be really patient or afk or noob.

On-Grid = The viewable space from that spot. For example a ship may dissappear and go off grid at 400km. It's still 400km away but you no longer see it on your overview. It has left your grid.

As for the technique you are talking about, it is very annoying and difficult to do. Most the time the target will have moved by the time you manage to get hi grid.

The exception to this is sometimes when a target is just off grid by less than a few 1,000km. You often see them blink on to overview as you warp in or out. This allow you to drop a bookmark moments before exiting warp to get closer. Still hard but more reasonable.

You are much better off getting good with probes. Far easier to use and far more reliable.

GL (good luck)

What's a templar is a very old joke.

My choice of pronouns is based on your avatar. Even if I know what is behind the avatar.

The size of your grid is dynamic which can lead to confusing things happening.

There are actually tricks to mess with the size and shape of your grid. Check this goon manual on Grid-Fu. I recall CCP wanting to do something about this so this might be outdated

I've seen the Jita 4-4 CNAP grid extended over 1500km from the station, along the instawarp line. Some people take their ganking seriously Blink

And yet again this game amazes me. The depth and complexity of what can be done to gain the advantage is epic.

Its not a learning curve, its a full on instructional course that is necessary to be successful at this game with never ending practice.

Don't try and learn everything before you start playing and get your feet wet.

EVE isn't about practicing or reading, it's about experiencing.
