If I want to mine in a mission site, will I have to wait to complete the mission until I'm done mining to go back and get my can?

Roids disappear when you turn in mission.

Even if you're already in the site?

Nope, but when you warp out they will disappear. Your can - bookmark it first - will stay though, so you can pick it up in a hauler.

I normally leave the mission open (don't fully complete it either) and just wait for downtime. When tranq is up and running again your mission and the roids in it have reset, so you can start over again :)

question: what's the point in mission mining? whenever i checked, there were more valuable asteroids in random belts (such as dense veldspar etc) than the mission ones.

I should buy an Ishtar.

You won't get ganked as much as in a belt.

sems like a pretty meager advantage considering all the drawbacks.

I should buy an Ishtar.

It's better than whining on the forums about hulkageddon.

We should be encouraging the miners who do something, anything other than whine on the forums.

I say HUZZAH to you, my good OP.

Seriously, GD's front page is 16/20 HAG whine threads.

Thanks, last time I got ganked I congratulated my ganker on evading my notice. Then I looted about 10m worth of T2 items from his wreck. I was cool with it. Retrievers are cheap. Also thanks for the info about mission mining. :)

Mission mining is good when the mission gives asteroids not normally available nearby. Pyroxeres and Omber, for instance.

And, as the others said, it's relatively safe for avoiding ganks. Most miner-killers are lazy and won't bother scanning when looking for targets as that means either switching ships or losing scanning equipment and probes when they get concorded. It's probably not safe to leave cans out if you are in a high traffic system though, because ninja looters will flip you hoping to provoke a fight like they do all the other level 4 mission runners.

But like anything else, you need to weigh how much you can make from mining those rocks compared to just ending the mission and grabbing the next one.

No low-sec ores that I know of in hi-sec lvl 4 missions, but there are ores that you would normally find in 0.5 in missions in higher sec space. There could possibly be a mission that has low-sec ore that I am unaware of though.

EDIT: Also, we're talking about security missions here.

Bumping, in hope that someone can provide the link Daniel Plain mentioned. I've been reading through S&I but I can't find it.
