I'm terribly confused. I've watched the scanning tutorial video and I think I understand the basics now. Now, here's the problem:

I've just finished those tutorial career agents, and while my skills are in training, I thought I'd explore a bit. Got Astronometrics to 2 and went through some solar systems. I've done about 6 now, and there's the strange part: my scans don't find ANYTHING. I'm doing it like in the tutorial, getting a probe in the middle of a solar system and setting the range to maximum. However, those probes don't find anything. Why is that?

Site spawns are random (within the constellation in question) and have a fixed spawn rate.

If you take all the sand out of the box, only the cat poo will remain.

Also, the tutorial might have made you apply a filter on the scanner that now is working against you by filtering out any possible signatures.

Clear the filter, bottom half of the scanning window, right click, reset filter (I believe, not in game atm so can't check it).

The tutorial exploration sites are always active, as players need them in order to complete the missions. As said ealier, regular exploration sites spawns at random.

If you are scanning in a heavy populated area, odds are, that most sites has already been scanned down, and completed, before you got to them.

Personally, I've had much better luck finding good sites in areas with few capsuleers.

If you go to your star map (F10), you can color stars by recent activity, and find an area nearby, with fewer people. Going there should greatly increase your chances.

Assuming you haven't set an odd scan filter, you will found something eventually. Don't give up
