Out of Pod Experience

I was kinda bored over the weekend and decided to load up Steam and see if there were any interesting new games. As I am going through game after game looking at their video and picture advertisements, one thing keeps jumping out at me in the back of my mind.

Where is the actual in game footage of the game I am looking at?

Before I shell out any money I want to see in game footage so I can get a feel for what I am buying before I buy it. Most of the video and picture advertisements are pretty and all, but where oh where is the in game footage?

Then I stumble upon the advertisement for Eve. I know Eve. I play Eve. Yet after watching the video and pictures, if I didnt already play Eve, I wouldn't have a clue what Eve is about. Sure, its pretty and all, but as a player looking at the game from the perspective of someone who hasnt played Eve before and is trying to get a feel for the game before paying money for it, the advertising didnt bring me any closer to what its like to play Eve.

Just a suggestion here, perhaps link some short videos showing actual game play? There are plenty of player created videos already out there to choose from. Some of the shorter Kil2 and Sard Caid how-to PvP videos are good ones just to start off with. Some alliance videos that aren't all potty mouth FC's swearing at their fleet members are entertaining to watch and show in game content to a perspective new player.

If none of those videos fancies you, or if the copyright violation possibilities have your lawyers shouting "NOOOOO dont do it", then make your own videos showing actual in game content so a person get a real feel for the game.

Anyone else have any thoughts on Eve advertising?
