I've Googled this under every parameter I can think of but found nothing.

During the Goons' Jita Burn event a month back my ship was regularly hit by something that looked like a jet of water splashing off the hull, accompanied by a sort of 'Pffft!' sound. No damage was caused.

What was it?

That sounds like a snowball launcher. What cannot be because all the snowballs got devhax-molten.

EDIT: /me shakes fist

I'm gonna say it was just a normal missile and the effect was a graphic bug hitting the wrong person. It didn't actually hit you so you took no damage. Happens with lasers on occasion too.

Maybe the OP was hit by a web while someone was shooting missiles?

Please pay attention to my description. There's no way it was missiles. It was happening right outside Jita 4-4 undock and I don't remember anyone using missiles at any time during the event. Also the sound bore no relation to that of a missile.

It happened repeatedly during the whole of the Jita Burn weekend. Whatever it was, it was directed straight at my ship and looked like a narrow white jet and splashed around the ship when it hit.

Your description sounds kind of like a remote shield transfer module. Why would anyone use one on you during BJ is beyond me.

Nope, not a shield transporter - like I said, it was a very narrow jet effect (a bit like a fire hose).

For the record, I'm familiar with all the effects shown here.

Aw, come on guys! The curiosity is going my head in - someone must know.

How about you Goons? You were swarming all around me in your Thrashers while this was happening.

Go to your game logs, find the date you saw the thing and it will tell you what it was.

Yeah, right.

Why not try reading my OP and noting the time and location I'm talking about? 10/12 hours in Jita each day during the Goons little knees-up. Nearly 2000 players in system, Goons attacking in multiples of ten every few minutes, CONCORD responding likewise each time, constant stream of warnings to criminals entering system . . . getting a picture?

It would be like looking for a needle in a thousand haystacks without knowing what a needle looks like.

Open in word.

Hit ctrl + f for search engine.

Search your own name.

Voila, you will find any log that includes you (both what you did or received) but it will limit the logs.

Only problem you might have then is finding the day the thing happened, but a bit weird that your OP has been posted weeks after the Jita burn.

Hmmm . . . you still haven't actually read my post, have you?

I know what day(s) it happened.

As for the time delay, if you read my post you might notice these words:

Which might in turn give you a clue. (To spell it out: I searched everywhere I could think of before bothering the forum.)

Have you ever looked in your logs for your name? If so, and if your logs are anything like mine, you wouldn't have found much. My name doesn't appear anywhere in the gamelogs - any log relevant to me simply says "you".

I've already searched the logs (in Notepad) under every parameter I thought might be relevant. All that remains would be to read the whole two days of logs, and I haven't even counted how many individual sessions that is. It would probably take me longer than the actual event lasted.

In any case, I can't see any way to search the whole log folder in Word - each session has to be opened individually.

Go to Sisi.
Train one level in each of the projected EWAR skills.
Try out each of them on a station or an asteroid.
See which one matches what you remember.

I'm gonna say it was a graphic glitch of a salvager and the poof sound and slpash effect was the jet can forming with the loot inside it.

This. Since you say it was on the undock, your ship was probably at the same location as a (or multiple wrecks) and it's not unthinkable some-one else would be salvinging those. Creating a nice merge of ship/salving/wreck graphics.

Google doesn't search your game logs. It searches internet.

It was a multi Frequency laser.

probably a medium beam. not a pulse. Beams on impact from long range make a Swishing sound, while pulses at long range make more of a rattle.

Multifreqs are white. They would hit and make a splashing appearance and would be a white stream.

Yes it was a bug. I have experience it myself. In fleet It appears graphically friendlies have shot there turret weapons at me even though they didn't even have me locked.

It just meant someone in system had a medium beam laser equipped with multi frequency crystals and was shooting some one else.

It happens randomly and I guess is more likely to happen in a lag ridden system.

Case closed

Noir. and Noir Academy are recruiting apply at www.noirmercs.com I Noir Academy: 60 days old must be able to fly at least one tech II frigate. I Noir. Recruits: 4:1 k/d ratio and can fly tech II cruisers.

I had the same thing during the Burn Jita event. Yes, it's a bug that occurs during high lag system. It's annoying but harmless.

That would explain it. I was cloaked and occasionally getting hit by a "beam" that did no damage nor uncloaked me. TiDi was in effect.

This sounds the most plausible yet.

I'm assuming that you mean that what you've seen is just a graphic glitch that does no damage. I haven't used lasers much but I was under the impression that beams had a distinct duration - these things took only a split second. To give yet another idea of the effect, imagine a very miniaturised version of the stargate jump effect.

It was hitting me so regularly that at one point I thought it was a scanner of some sort.

What? I don't see anywhere that I've even hinted that Google searches gamelogs.
