Sorry about this but there use to be an category for eve-related faults and issues when i last played and can't find it now.

I have already sent a petition through stating what the problem is but im hoping other good Samaritans on here may find the answer to my dilemma faster.

I can't play eve, i have downloaded the game got the last patch (24 May) i open up eve-online it verifies to 100% and the PLAY button highlights i left click it and it just refreshes itself. I use the repair tool but i get an alert message stating it can't operate as the exe.file.exe in the eve-online bin is running (the game isn't on at this point, nothing should be running).

What can i do, id like an answer quick since im using up my bonus free 15 day code!

Just a quick intro since im on the newbie forum. Hi all, started eve in 05 been playing off and on since then. Each time i resub eve i find it changing so fast and less guys i know playing but hope to get to grips with the new content and start re-using eve as my evening wind down again. Hope everyone's good and well and if you get the opportunity your more than welcome to say hi, pod, loot, sell my corpse on escrow if/when we meet in game Lol

Restart your computer and try again.

If you have an older computer I would give it time to open the program once you click play from the launcher. I have a new computer and it takes a couple of seconds.

Yes give it time after you press play on the launcher. For some odd reason there is a pause there. I have a rather powerful computer, and I still wait maybe five, even ten seconds. If that is not working, yes restart the computer and ensure that the eve.exe is not running when you run the launcher.

That happened to me once before, too. Either I needed to run it as administrator or had to uninstall/reinstall it completely. For some reason, the launcher won't actually allow the game to start (or the game starts and immediately exits).

I wish I could remember exactly how I fixed the issue.

This.

Failing this working, either run as admin (shouldn't be required, but heh) or re-install the launcher.

You can also try checking the box in the option to not launch the launcher unless there is an update to be done, that cleared the one glitch I ever had with it (and it self repaired on the next update).

E: if your install that you're upgrading is eleventy billion years old, you may want to just re-install from ground level, including any and all settings and cache files. I think you need to do this if your installation was pre-trinity, but I am not sure.

I did have the pre-trinity era builds but thought wise to start from scratch again.

I have re-formatted my system (other issues) started from complete scratch and still the same issue.

Where is the option box to not launch the launcher and how do i just re-instal the launcher and not the whole game

By the by i think i only ever managed to clear the cache when in game i visited this site:
clearing cache guide
Windows 7: %LOCALAPPDATA%\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility

Trouble is i moved the game to a usb pen prior fiddling with it and now i can't find the actual folder.

I have come close eve > Launcher > cache

There are 7 files and one folder named download (nothing in download) so i have to assume its one or all of these, any help ?

have you tried starting exefile.exe from the /bin/ folder in your eve installation folder, possibly with admin rights?

i just locked an open door.. strange, yet symbolically compelling.

also iirc if you make a shortcut to exefile and add something like "/server:Tranquility" to the target, it will show you the things it does before the client fully starts for you like "Network layer using: CarbonIO", "Starting up Trinity through trinity_deploy.dll ..." and so on, perhaps if you can create a similar state you can see where exactly it fails.

I think at this point you should try launching the game with the log server (logserver.exe) running and sending the results to a friendly CCP techy.

Sometimes the issue can be in a real small thing that takes time to find.
