UI becomes extremely unresponsive

After updating to Inferno the in-game UI consistently becomes extremely unresponsive.

When this happens, it can take upwards of 3 mouse clicks to select a radio button, manually navigate a ship, select something from the Overview, etc.

There doesn't seem to be any correlation between play session length and the UI becoming unresponsive; the bug has occurred moments after logging in as well as hours into a play session.

This issue seems only to be remedied by restarting the game client.

Is anyone else having this issue? Can anyone suggest a fix?

The last time this happened to me it turned out that Steam had decided it was a great time to update. Killed the process and EVE was useable again.

While you may not have Steam installed, there's a chance that something else outside of your game client could be borking with game I/O.

(Now, if only quitting Steam would reduce inventory lag...)

I do use Steam, and had considered this, but the issue crops up even when launching the client directly.

Whilst it's impossible to say with 100% certainty due to OS updates, Steam updates, etc., but the issue seems only to have appeared after the Inferno update. I haven't installed any new apps in the meantime.
