The decline in usage is pretty clear. I borrowed this link from another post. Lots of excuse-making on the forums, including people claiming that the dip last weekend was due to the wait for the expansion plus Diablo. Excuse this week is just Diablo. But the trend of less usage is clear in the stats.

This is the Sunday after expansion and usage is very low at the moment.

Why is it so hard to believe that the emphasis on ganking has driven casual players away from game? I'm not just talking about Hulkageddon. Since the Goon ice intervention, ganking has been very high and very steady in my old neighborhood in Minmatar space.

Sure, newbies are signing up for a game that has a strong PVP emphasis - but most newbies I've known are shocked to find out that suicide ganking is considered PVP.

Add that to the poor implementation of the new inventory system and you have this year's perfect storm for losing players.

Is Eve dying? Probably not. The game can hang on for a long time with its loyal core players. But it is clearly in decline at the moment. The game treats new players like crap and always has. And even core players might move on if the game gets so quiet that there's nobody to gank any more.

Thanks for the link.

I find it interesting that over the past three years, concurrent users have roughly the same numbers for this time year. Looks like historically, there is a yearly dip in players starting around now to about September, when it starts to pick up again.

Of course, a factor in this is the fact that it's the first sunday after an expansion, but right now we're at about 38.6k players right now, with that number rising by about two hundred players in the two minutes I took between checks, and it's still quite early.

When the Crucible expansion hit, there was even less concurrent players than there are now, at around 30k. Same with Incarna, around 30k. Incursion as well, also with around 30k.

By your own link, this is doing better than the previous expansions. And that's jsut with the numbers so far.

Edit: This is of course assuming I'm reading the charts correctly. I might very well be mistaken, since I'm going to be in just a bit after having just worked a night shift.

Secondary Edit: Number taken from the nearest date I could find after those Expansion releases. Dates gotten from Wikipedia.

You guys do know that players on line doesn't matter much when it verries bya few hundred/thousand. A lot of people pay to skill up while doing other things. For example, I didn't log in once for 3 weeks when Arkham City was released. but I still was skilling up and paying CCP.

yep, friends and myself have a lot of accumulated time from buying plexes (market, NOT cash) and do the same, we take breaks playing other games when we get burnt out(no pun intended).

i blame the mega alliances in null for making eve be boring.

All automated intel should be removed from the game including Instant local/jumps/kills/cynos for all systems/regions.Eve should report nothing like this to the client/3rd party software.Intel should not be force fed to players. Player skill and iniative should be the sources of intel.

Just curious, why? I run a small corp in null, find it fun actually. Not naming other corps, but I enjoy talking to some even though they are trying to find/kill us. Some are nice, and some are down right obscene.

If they got some balls and teeth then they wouldn't feel like they were being griefed. There are plenty of industrials in high sec who don't get griefed simply because they don't think they're entitled to being 'left alone to play nice'. Get a grip.

Believe me I know how it goes.

I went hunting last night, 25 jumps found 4 people either docked up, or in a random place alone in their pod. Its weird actually. I havent seen the blobs for a few nights, but the flip side, ratting without worry is better money than lvl 4 missions. It can be boring at times, and exciting also if a group/blob jumps in system. I think with the holiday weekend, a drop in group activities is to be expected.

Best wishes

P.S. I speak for myself, not even my corpmates...which doesnt matter since i dont post on my main.

I don't know. Before I retired, if I was not actually going somewhere during vacation, I considered it extra time for playing even more games. I know how geeks and gamers think in general. So.............hard to say.
