Lets not forget that one can make REAL LIFE PROFITS in Diablo which you cannot do in Eve.

People are too busy trying to make real life money in Diablo 3, frankly that is why a lot of people are there. TO MAKE MONEY.

If Eve would let us make real life money, then Eve would get a huge in flood of players, and player retention. That could be where Eve ends up, if you read the "Greed is good" articles, you should have seen the full money life cycle part of it, they didn't cared who paid as long as somebody paid and if you read into it further, there was a full money life cycle potential there including getting it OUT of the game as profit. If you looked at the Eve API data types you will even see ATM enumerations there that could be used for this purpose... http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/EVE_API_EVE_Reference_Types , ROWS 4 AND 5. Hunt out me a link to the Incarna greed is good newsletter that was leaked and I will show you the full money lifecycle plans for Eve in it.

By that logic, Second Life should have killed EVE years ago. People have made thousands of dollars from that game.
But when you look here http://dwellonit.taterunino.net/sl-statistical-charts/, you see that over the past 48 hours, Second Life hasn't gone past sixty thousand concurrent logins, which is only ten thousand less than EVE managed a couple of Sundays ago.

Or maybe, the Diablo numbers are bolstered by it being a AAA game people have been waiting over a decade for that has a really high profile. So maybe people are choosing to spend their limited time on that for a little while before possibly coming back to EVE?

And again, that's leaving aside the fact that this dip in players has happened every year around this time. I'm going to continue making this point since you seem to be reluctant to address it, and instead are focusing on Diablo.

I am considering dumping Eve for a few months to profit in Diablo myself.

But you didn't link me the Greed is good newsletter I asked for where I can show you the same future for Eve in it.

The newsletter is irrelevent. I know what's in it. And when it was leaked, it created a furor in the community that lead to mass subscription cancellations.

CCP has stated that they no longer intend to go down that road. Whether they are being truthful or not is irrelevent.

The discussion was about the causes of the dip in concurrent player numbers over the past few sundays. The greed is good newletter and you're idea of "the future of EVE" has nothing to do with that.

Now, can you drop the red herring?

No it is not irrelevant! lol It clearly spelled out their desire to have a FULL MONEY LIVE CYCLE in Eve similar to Diablo has.

They know they need to do this for the long term Eve, let's not forget, Eve is the golden goose to fund CCP's future in WoD and Dust MicroPayments, Micro Payments and F2P is CCP's future. THey know it, that is their plan, you don't like it, tough poopy.

They don't care who pays, they want money, by any means, the greedier the better, and taht means MICRO PAYMENTS, and full money life cycle as Diablo has. They know their numbers are risky due to many accounts per play, they cannot absorb player churn, we seen this in Incarna. They need to get somethign bigger and more less niche than Eve, something like Diablo, something like WoW, and that is WoD. It isnt Eve, it is WoD and micropayments, someting Eve customers will not pay, that is also why they are trying to replace the current NON MICROPAYING Customers demographic with one that WILL PAY.. Asia,.. NEXON.

Make no mistake, CCP DOES want to go down the MT road, they WILL go down the MT road, they are very well known for telling you one thing and doing the other, the MT plan is still in effect. IT IS COMING, just now more "gently" until the American non MT paying demographic has been overshadowed by a more willing to pay demographic.

If you don't like it, stop gaming forever, because MT is here, it is coming bigger, it is gamings future. Fact. F2P is a huge thing, games houses spend YEARS pumping millions into Free 2 Play MT games, not box single games now. In game purchases, in app / in game stores, are here. Don't like it, become a Nun.

Face it you ARE ADDICTED to GAMING, CCP has that right, YOU WILL CUSTOMISE YOUR CHARACTER and PAY FOR IT. CCP and games companeis also have that right, if you aren't , then why are you posting on a forum, WE ARE ALL ADDICTED AND HOOKED TO IT. Just admit it.

What's that got to do with the price of beans in Albuquerque?

Again, this entire argument is irrelevent to the discussion at hand. Right now I'm not even sure you're arguing with me. Again, the discussion is about the cause(s) of the dip in concurrent players. I'm not interested in discussing anything else.

At this point, I'd call you out on once again ignoring the "this happens every year" like I predicted, but since you ignored that entire post I think we'll just give a pass on that.

Please address the arguments I made previously, or admit your inabiltiy to do so. You trying to shift the discussion to something you feel more comfortable with is not helping you. It just makes it seem as if you can't admit when you're wrong.

Hilariously enough though, your last paragraph kind of runs counter to your stated position on the dip issue. If we're all so addicted and just hooked to this game, there shouldn't be a dip at all, should there?P

The decline in usage is pretty clear. I borrowed this link from another post. Lots of excuse-making on the forums, including people claiming that the dip last weekend was due to the wait for the expansion plus Diablo. Excuse this week is just Diablo. But the trend of less usage is clear in the stats.

This is the Sunday after expansion and usage is very low at the moment.

Why is it so hard to believe that the emphasis on ganking has driven casual players away from game? I'm not just talking about Hulkageddon. Since the Goon ice intervention, ganking has been very high and very steady in my old neighborhood in Minmatar space.

Sure, newbies are signing up for a game that has a strong PVP emphasis - but most newbies I've known are shocked to find out that suicide ganking is considered PVP.

Add that to the poor implementation of the new inventory system and you have this year's perfect storm for losing players.

Is Eve dying? Probably not. The game can hang on for a long time with its loyal core players. But it is clearly in decline at the moment. The game treats new players like crap and always has. And even core players might move on if the game gets so quiet that there's nobody to gank any more.

That already happened to the Original Thread about "FYI H'geddon May be Permanent" yesterday. Current one is the Resurrection. Well, not locked yesterday, but 'disappeared' somehow.

Maybe deliberate, maybe glitch. Who can guess anymore ?
