So....fleet formations. Any news on it?

Why do you want fleet formations? So you dont get left behind for not aligning?

All that will happen is even less control in a game that already lacks much control of situations.

I don't really see how fleet formations are useful unless you use long-range snipers exclusively.

How do you brawl in formation?
How do you burn out of bubbles in formation?
How do you keep up transversal in formation while moving away into one direction (e.g. Guardians orbiting logi anchor which burns away from the fleet)?
How does your tackle wing fly in formation?

We do formations as it is today, by keeping f.ex logis fly away from the main fleet in the opposite direction of the enemy fleet etc. vOv

Cyno's lit, bridge is up, but one pilot won't be jumping home.

Basically - that. The devs at fanfest said that they feel existing fleet warp mechanics already take much of the tactics/skill out of moving a fleet around the field of battle. Adding fleet "formations" doesn't help make game play more interesting other then "it looks pretty".

It's in one of the recorded segments, but I can't remember which one.

In some ways, I'd love to see them get rid of fleet warp and require that the wing commanders do the job. Which would require the WCs to be more on the ball at getting everyone to the right location at the right time for larger fleets.

Keeping the same mechanic is fine. What about not warping in like a ball...and like a straight-line fleet? It looks so pretty :(

I used to love the formations in Homeworld, would love to see it in-game. But hey, we can do it the hard way and when we get it right it will be that much sweeter because we did it by clicking in space and careful maneuvering rather than clicking on a drop-down menu button.

EDIT: People might even say corp/alliance "x" have skilled pilots, did you seem them at Alliance Space Show X?

While I agree that it shouldn't become 'too easy', I do think the players need better ways to navigate their ship. A Homeworld-style movement-disc would be a very welcome addition.

SOOOO.....its a habit of mine. I tend to start a lot of sentences explaining things or talking about something with it. Its bad because its in my writing too now :(

Yeah, positioning the various elements of your fleet for maximum advantage in the middle of a firefight is one of the most important skills a fleet can demonstrate. Having the FC select an 'formation' option and automatically warping every ship to its optimum location with a single button press is the most laughable way of killing this aspect of combat imaginable. Having the option then provide actual fleet bonuses on top of that is absurd.

Goodbye, terrible idea, you won't be missed.
