They're definitely an improvement on the old missiles and the concept looks gobsmackingly good, although the propulsion system smokes so much the engines must be produced by some third world engineers in the arse end of nowhere.

Less smoke and more pounding on the outside of the hull with a sledgehammer sound effects needed please.

This. You'd think 28 kilotons would do more than just a 'thud'. No complaints about the rest. It looks fuckin brilliant.

eve is about submarines. Serious submarines. And business.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

The thing about the missiles is, they have realistic particle trails, for a rocket with a poor burn on rudimentary fuel sources. It's kinda like it's burning on Diesel, Coal dust, Gunpowder and oil. Shocked They do look cool though. Smile

The fact that their particle trails are realistic isn't the issue, so much as the fact they are unrealistic for their environment; realistic would be something that burned much cleaner, hotter, and with much more appropriate product from the burn. On the other hand, maybe we're not accounting for something present in the Galaxy of New Eden. How do we know the vacuum of space isn't littered with an inordinate amount of pollutants after 20'000 years of space-faring Human civilization?

If it makes you feel any better nobody else does either. T2 Heavy Launchers never broke a mill each in Jita.

I've tried to like them. I really want to like them. But I just can't. They don't seem like they are appropriate for space combat; feels like they came straight out of a flight combat game with their smoke trails and what not. The old missiles had that old Star Trek-y feel for some reason. I also don't really like the launchers. The Cruise/Torpedo ones are cool because they are "inside" the ship, but the external ones again look like they belong in a flight combat game. Especially Rocket Launchers.

Point of this thread? I don't know. Just felt I needed to share it.

I agree, I was really upset when they implemented space ships in EVE Online because they just don't seem like they could really "fly" in space, and I couldn't do a barrel role :(

Aside crappy looks and performance hits. I have no idea if i am hit by heavy's, cruises or torpedo's. Before we would at least be able to tell the difference by the approaching yellow/blue orb size.

Now aside from hit effect that is more like a fart than a booming sound-effect (and why do arties and 800mm sound like thunder in space and missiles like crap?), and visually its underwhelming, torpedo's at least had a big shockwave (not that it did anything) but it was at least something.

Actually, when a solid or liquid fuel rockets exhaust exits a space craft in the vacuum of space it would leave a trail of fine particles for a brief few seconds- but due to the fact that there is no air pressure in space and therefore little friction the particles would quickly disperse. We know this, because of NASA test studies and films from the 60's.

So though the trails of smoke in EVE are a little long...the fact that they disperse so quickly is pretty accurate. Nicely done CCP.

I like the new launchers and trails...I liked the old explosions (spherical fireball FTW!) and photon torpedo-style drive effects better though.
