New war surrender mechanic - how does it work?

Would it be possible to get a little more explanation on exactly how this works?

If I am the aggressor and I put a sum of ISK in the "offer surrender" option, does that mean that the defender gets the option to pay me that sum of ISK to end the war? The in-game UI has no explanation on how this works as the aggressor or the defender and the patch notes are not helpful.

I believe your understanding is the intended functionality yes.

If brute force isn't working, you're just not using enough.

Please Note: Any advice given comes with the caveat that nothing will be suitable for every situation.

Yeah, I believe that is the intended mechanic. However, I am curious as to the speed if things. If your enemy surrenders, dies fighting stop immediately like if you failed to pay war costs in the old system, or is there the old 24 hour cool down timer where corps are still at war?

Also, can you surrender if a war is mutual. A nice guide for the new wardec mechanics would be nice.

I did a war dec, and I contacted the CEO saying he could end his war for 150 mil. he accepted and hit the surrender button. the war goes inactive 24 hours after the CEO or directer of the corp who is NOT surrendering hits the OK button and accepts the surrender.

so it works by asking them to push the button and how much you want via in game mail.
they push the button and put a reason and isk amount
you accept the surrender and war ends 24 hours after you push the accept button

~Edit~
if you start the war dec and push the offer surrender button you are offering to pay them isk to surrender to them i believe, but i could be wrong.

I can confirm the last post, recently just finished a dec. Yes if YOU being the aggressor hit the surrender button with isk amount or no isk, then you are surrendering to the defenders, when the defenders surrender to you, concord will send a mail stating they have done so and gives a link in the mail that you click and it displays the terms for you to accept or not.
