This is a holiday weekend in the states. Believe it or not folks go out, visit friends and generally don't play video games. That, betas and D3 have no doubt made their mark

There Is A 90% Chance All Of What You Just Read Is Wrong, Inaccurate Or Just Me Being Controversial In Some Way. Or By Some Chance It's Completely Right In Every Way... At Least To Me :3

Are we talking the same low activity that happens every year this time?

In every game. It's been the same through whole MMO history.. was always harder to find PvP and raids in Everquest, Ultima etc, when summer was about to hit.

That being said, and myself spending alot more time outside recently, I've also completely ignored EVE for at least a week in favour of Diablo 3. And, coming back to this inventory ****.. combined with Diablo 3 still being available, summertime, etc.. there's plenty of reasons not to play EVE right now. And then we havn't even mentioned CCP's ****** attitude vs customers, blob promotions, FW getting complete opposite revamp of what they were requesting, etc.

But yah still, this time a year, all games drop, always been like that. The rest is just cosmetic. Maybe.

Possibly because of the Diablo 3 release?

Possibly because of the Inferno expansion?

EDIT 1:
The end of 2010 seemed to be the highest peak, what expansion was that?

EDIT 2:
Or maybe the drop in players is actually a drop in macro mining bots because of the new inventory, damn that's a lot of bots!!!

I imagine now that warmer weather is here for us in the Northern Hemisphere, more people are spending less time indoors. Imagine that, people actually seeing the sun, it may seem foreign to you, but it happens. Honest. Arrow

Statistics should not be taken in isolation and I've read that polling a group that picks themselves is generally bad. With that in mind, I'd like to present this.

The most recent drop started about two months ago and may have stopped with the expansion. The last 2 weeks have had the majority of the drop and that has caught people's attention. Ive seen all sorts of reasons given for it:

Hulkageddon
Dust
Diablo 3
Dissatisfaction with the game
Bot bans
RMT bans
Summer

We have no data that allows us to distinguish between these options. Nor do we know if the drop in users is matched by a drop in subscriptions.

Edit: Well the post above mine gives some basis to say alot of the drop is Diablo 3.

Alot of us sneak in an hour of play in at lunch, right on top of Euro prime time. Unless we are on vacation travel.

It was up for the last two days, as expected after a patch, now it's down again.
Before that, it's down as expected from being close to a AAA release and a generally low-population time of the year.

Todays low peak is to some extent due to the server being taken off line. Many log in, do a little, then go AFK. Not just AFK cloakers but people who just want to be able to come back to the computer and scroll up through chat to see whats going on.

The number on-line is always a little low after a unscheduled server outage.

Yeah I saw 7 this morning. Very low indeed!!!

But anyway, some new stuff came out, new movies to see, finals are getting close for US high school kids and US college kids just got out and probably went on vacation, its summer and subs always drop a bit for that... there are a lot of factors.

i like people who day D3. Couldn't possibly be the fact that eve is just bad and a sandbox concept is so 10 years ago.

Diablo 3 is taking up a lot of peoples time & gets more addictive the further you get in to Inferno mode.

When I started playing EVE I was 25, my daytime occupation was living and breathing the university lifestyle, no kids, no house, no money, no worries.

Today, I'm 31, got a wife, two kids, a house that needs maintenance, full time job, still not enough money and lots of first world worries. ie, I play eve less, and most of the guys I played with back in the earlier days are in the same position. The eve community is not a constant mass, who behaves exactly the same year after year. I still pay my subscription every month, even if I log on 1/3 of the time I did earlier. I'm still as interested, still loving it, and I also mature enough to not rage quit over changes in the pixels on my screen. This game is too good for that.

I really don't get why people are so determined to find another graph, another reason, another crisis to claim EVE is dying. It is most likely not, and even if it were on the brink of the abyss, what are you going to do with that knowledge? If you are so afraid that EVE is dying, go blow **** up while you have the chance, enjoy it to it's fullest potential instead of making all these drama threads on the forums.

Or go fix that damn fence that's been cracked for months now. EVE will still be here when you come back. I promise.

Ironic is it not ? I always thought of work holidays as the time to do even more gaming. I'm most sure I'm not the only one.

But you say they are not playing EVE and are doing other things ? Probably correct there. I'm not either this time.

I wonder, wonder, wonder why.
