Been spending the better part of the day trying to fix this launcher so I can play Inferno, and I've just about had it.

Started the day looking to get on EVE and try out Inferno, so I opened up Steam and waited for the launcher to come up so I could update the client. Instead, I get this:

"Exception: No connection could be made to the content server. Please make sure that your Internet connection is up and restart the launcher."

Check my Internet connection, which turns out to be fine, then restart the launcher. Same thing happens. Shut off firewall and antivirus (Webroot SecureAnywhere), try again, same result. Log onto the forums, start looking for similar cases, notice that:

  • Some instances of this error resolve spontaneously or after a restart
  • Some instances resolve after manually patching the launcher and/or the client

Try the restart, no effect. Try patching the client, site says this is done with the launcher (extremely useful information...). Dig around and find the online installer, which no longer works. Dig around some more to find the manual patcher, spend an hour downloading both payloads and installing the thing. This, predictably, has no effect.

Get desperate. Uninstall Steam copy of EVE and reload, same problem. Update to latest build, run repair.exe, try manually launching files (eve.exe, launcher.exe, launcher_console.exe, exefile.exe from the /bin folder). First three result in same exception, fourth file actually brings up the client. Try to log in, no connection.

Very frustrated, need some solid help with this. Have the log files, screenshots of the exception window, and can retrieve any other files. Willing to work to make this file work, but someone needs to meet me halfway.

Make this a moment to be proud of, CCP.

If you're getting a message saying you can't access the content server then it means that the connection to our CDN has timed out. If you can get me the log files from the launcher\cache folder, I'd love to work out what URL you're trying to access and why that might be timing out.

Very much appreciate the response on this problem. Love playing the game, but I have to be able to log on to the server to play.

Can you try rerunning the Launcher now? We've seen a few issues be resolved when simply viewing the offending URL in a browser. We think it's due to some caching on your ISP which is why I wanted to know what it looked like to you.

I tried rerunning the launcher after viewing the URL in Chrome. Running the launcher generated the same exception as before, so I tried viewing the URL for the launcher and running the launcher after viewing the page. While the launcher, again, generated the same exception, I did notice that the launcher page I opened up was accurately reporting the status of the Tranquility server (Online). Don't know if that information helps or not, but I figured I'd share it.

Just saw that you're the same dev working on my bug report, Atropos; I really do appreciate the help and the patience you've shown me.

You told me that the log file for repair.exe showed an error consistent with the application not having permission to access the socket in a way not allowed by its permissions and suggested that I try running the application in Administrator mode to elevate its permissions. I went into the Properties -> Compatibility window of each application (eve.exe, launcher.exe, and launcher_console.exe) and told the applications to run in Administrator mode. Sadly, this did not work; running these applications after the change resulted in the same exception. I have to admit, this is becoming disheartening.

I should be thanking you for your patience in this, rather than the other way around! The main thing is that errors such as yours are rare, and thus when they cause problems we're completely out of luck attempting to reproduce them or find out a workaround or fix for them.

If you can reply to the bug report with this information it would great, because it keeps the details in one place, allowing for easier tracking of the issue.

Again, thank you for your patience in this, I hope we can work out a way to resolve the issue.
