SONAR module needed

I like the suggested solution (assuming that a burst of radiation is used in the place of sound, considering it is operating in a vacuum). Since it only gives a range, it would really only be effective against AFK pilots, so not really game breaking in any way. If it takes 20 minutes to find a cloaked ship and the cloaked ship warps to another tactical bookmark ever 15 minutes (or just keeps moving at 400 m/sec with occasional course changes), it is hardly much of a nerf to Covert-Ops.

All this would do is make going AFK while cloaked more like going AFK at a deep space bookmark in a non cloaky ship. Someone who has specialized tools and knows how to use them might find you.

Of course the inability to find AFK pilots while they are cloaked is not exactly a glaring omission by any means. It does sound interesting though.

It's an interesting idea, for sure, but it sure as hell should not be a button you click that tells you "OMFG THERES A CLOAKY RIGHT THERE!" followed by titan sized red arrows pointing to it.

If anything, a Destroyer only high slot module that will send out a ping in something like a 25KM radius around the ship. If there is ANYTHING within that 25km radius, it will bring back to you and simply say "object detected" or w/e. A downside to the module? Anything will cause a ping. So a destroyer in the middle of a fleet would be useless, and cloakies could hide in asteroid belts.

Or, perhaps tie it into the D-scan, were if you have it equipped, you get an additional tab in the scanner that works like a d-scan, so you can fine tune it with range, direction etc. Any cloaked ships will simply return "Unknown", and maybe show a distance, but not heading. Or not even a distance.

Just some ideas for ***** & giggles. probably a dumb idea either way.

I believe in Star Trek they were able to detect cloaked ships by neutrino emissions (yes I am a geek) and they had to be in relatively close proximity. They could never pinpoint the location of a cloaked ship but doing a torpedo spread (waste of ammo) usually helped flush the enemy out. That would be a good place to start. In the end though it would still be a waste 9 out of 10 times as the cloaky ship would just move unless they are AFK. Your ship would have to be cloaked itself for this to be worth it but then you would end up breaking and ruining other mechanics of the game.

TL; DR To make this work properly it would break game mechanics IMO.

If you actually have the skill, and aren't too lazy to take the effort (which apparently all the little *****es are) you can find cloaked ships.

Sure. Make it ping out to say, 2 kilometers.

Also, we have many people who think they're clever pointing out how there can be no sound in space meanwhile accepting the underwater physics in the game instead of real space flight and overlooking what we all heard from aura over coms as first day noobs that sound is fed to our brains so that we can understand things better in our capsules.Roll

Also, big ******* deal if you can't one torp other ships into wreckage. We all cry that there is no realism in EVE. It makes it not worth playing.Roll

So yeah, it would still be cool if pings happened and you could hear them and you had to hide your sub again before it got located, decloaked or killed by a smatbombing BS, all without having a one shot wrecking ability.

Confirming that I'm afk cloaked while posting in an afk cloaking thread. And that this is not causing any problem in game that would be solved by some ridiculous ping module.

This same topic surfaces time after time after time...

First off, the items already exist in the database.

But CCP hasn't seen fit to release them.

Personally, I think it'd be a great addition to the game.

The problem would be, getting onto the same grid at the Cloaker.

You can't exactly scan them down. And you wouldn't want to... every module has a counter. And Cloaks are the counter to Probes.

If you start making Probes that can find Cloaks, next people will want ammo that bypasses Resists.

How exactly would that work in the vacuum of space, I wonder... Cool

Space in EVE is a vacuum?

I think not.

The idea is that ships are always using this sort of scanner, and cloaked ships are both becoming invisible and becoming immune to this scanner.

Cloaking whine threads with horribad, game-breaking ideas are a dime a dozen. Just do us all a favor. Give me your stuff and biomass if the game is too hard for you. I'm sure your **** ideas will be welcomed at WoW.

Obviously, the reason you posted this is to counter afk cloakers who camp your system days on end and keep all your carebears docked up wetting their panties. My question to you is, which one of you will have the gonads to fit this hypothetical device and actually undock and go hunt said afk cloaker? bok bok bokTwisted
