I'm sharpening my knives at the prospect of more de-fuelled POSs in w-space.

I've been out of the loop on the fuel price front. I usualy buy 6 or 12 months worth in one go. I'm getting down to 2 or 3 months left and need to do an audit. This new inventroy UI will make it interesting.

The only thing I can think of is Mackinaw's being ganked pushing up the price of fuel.

I found 8 towers last week alone. Maybe its the patented TF Effect.

I produce my own POS fuel from scratch, only purchasing the ice fuels off the market through buy orders. Since I turn around and resell on the market, my costs are passed on to the consumer. Roll

That being said, does anyone know of ice miners who sell isotopes at under Jita buy prices? I could give them a discount on POS fuel in return...

I just have all the raw fuel and shove it in the cooker/assembly array anchored at each tower every once in awhile. Fuel blocks may be space efficient but cost wise they can go to hell buying off market. It's a shame CCP removed the ability to use the old fuels.

Regardless of whether you manufacture or buy, the isotope portion of fuel costs has tripled in the last 6-8 weeks. In fact, if you manufacture you will save yourself 10-15% on Jita prices, if at all. Similarly, you need to work out the opportunity cost of producing crappy PI materials for your fuel cooking versus making more expensive PI materials for sale and using that extra money to offset buying fuels.

Looking at Minmatar fuel and Hydrogen Isotopes, which have been hit hardest on the Jita market, each fuel block currently sells for about 22,000 ISK. At max skills, each block requires roughly 14,761 ISK in all three ice fuels at current buy prices, or 2/3 almost exactly of what I sell it for. That means I'm making a 50% profit selling fuel on today's market. The margin has decreased somewhat since pre-Hulkageddon but yes, there is still a reason to make it.

Since I also sell the fuel to my alliance at a discount, I benefit from not having to change the setups on my 35 planets, and my alliance benefits from the cost reduction.

raw material price has been rising steadily since fuel blocks were introduced, whats causing the isotope price rize?

I wonder what the actual profit is when you calculate in the price of the non-ice materials.

I calculate the costs there as "time," or about 2-3 hours every 3 days. There are ways to earn a higher ISK/time ratio I'm sure, but little else allows me to do it while AFK or doing diplomacy or admin work at the same background.

Besides, not everything is just about profits. As I'm producing fuel for my alliance, I think the lowered potential profits are worth it.

EDIT: I crunched the numbers for Jita buy prices at 14:30 today, and if I bought everything straight from the market, I would be making 3,584 ISK extra on a block that cost 18,400 to build, or 19% profit. Most of the money I'm making is really coming from an overly-complicated way of selling the PI I'm producing.

I'm in charge of producing uranium, coolant and oxygen in my corp and just started to produce little amarr ive as well. The pi products are actually going down (those three at least) so I turning them most to produce the fuel rather than selling it in market.

Bob Artis, you will be missed.

In a belt when someone warps in to gank you, if you warp out you still get a portion of the cycle of your lasers. In ice mining, if you warp out before your cycle is over you get nothing. :(

This i did not know. This must be why ice prices are so high!

I think what he was really getting at was that in a wormhole when you're making maybe a bill/week who really cares
about it costing an extra few hundred mills per month to fuel the towers.
So yeah if the fuel prices are really make or break for you then yes you are doing something very wrong
