question about bomber raising sec status

so ive decided to get this characters standings up in preparation to be sold. its been a few years since ive tried to raise the sec status of a character but i assume the best way was to still use a stealth bomber in 0.0 and pop a battleship in system then go to next system.

ive cant say ive used missiles since their introduction of explosion velocity and damage scalling which i think was around 2006, and im sure theyve been changed around a bit since then. but my understanding was missiles did max damage to a target if it was stationary otherwise it scalled to the ships speed a size. but would basically due maxish damage to a target that would be of equal size of the missile (in this case torps vs battleships).

well i took my stealthbomber and since i was using torps on battleships i figured i wouldnt need a painter or the rigs that increase explosion velocity.

my group hits are varying so much in damage it almost made me wonder if npc now cycle hardners?

i was getting 12-1500 damage a shot on angel BS that were around 40% explosive shield resiest. this can go up over 2000 easily if they mwd towards me. but ive scene it as low as 300 on a ship i was hitting 12-1500 at while still in shield. this seems to be more common when they are closer.

if i could stay at that normal damage range their wouldnt be a problem but often once i hit that 300-500 range a shot they start to tank my damage until it picks back up to 1100+ (which is after a reaload and ive put some distance between us).

thought the dps on the ship was fine:
Cov op lvl5
warhead up lvl5
2 x T2 BCU
T2 high dmg torps

i figured id do close to max damage to a battleship so i didnt fit a painter, do i n

Try not using rage torps. Angel BSs have a sig between 320 and 400m and rage torps have an explosion radius of 650m, so at base you're doing between 320/650 = 49% and 400/650 = 61.5% damage using them. Normal and navy torps have an explosion radius of 450m, so that gets you to 320/450 = 71.1% and 400/450 = 88.9% of listed damage.

thanks alot for explaining that zhilia, my understanding of how that worked was obviously way off.

with the numbers i got now i do 1900 volley dmg with faction (at the 320 sig, 40% resist) excluding the velocity deduction campared to 1400 volley damage i was getting with T2

that should make a huge difference and improved my fit as im able to go from T2 launchers to arbalest so might squeeze an ab or another BCU on.

I've just returned to EVE after a long break and now realised that I left my char at -5.7 sec status.

The forums all suggest a stealth bomber with torps in nullsec, but doesn't that leave you vulnerable to scrambling frigates?

Find somewhere nice and quiet. Cloak up and move if someone you don't know arrives in system. There's plenty of empty nul out there, I was rarely bothered 3 months ago when I was doing the same.

go ratting with a bomb launcher. just wait till the npcs are grouped then fire the bomb will kill the frigs and cruisers then just use torps on the battleships.
