In desperate need of money! So I've decided to give lvl4's a go..

Thing is, I only have around 10mil SP, so nothing fancy.. And I'm mainly trained for Min ships.

I'm gonna give it a go in a drake right now.

when I can afford a battleship..What one should I get(Min battleship) and how should I fit it?
Not trained for T2 large guns yet

Malestrom usually does pretty well with an arty fit.

Should have put this in the Ships and Modules forum btw.

Maelstrom if you must go wimpmatar. T2 guns will make a big difference

Better suggestion IMHO: Raven, it's not the absolute best ship for lvl 4's, but it is a very good lvl 4 boat and has a low skill point entry bar. Cap boosters suck but they're manageable until you can afford a deadspace medium booster.

I plan on living forever.......so far, so good.

No, training for a Raven is like painting yourself into a mediocre corner. Training Winmatar is a better idea because you can progress to the Machariel, while the CNR and Rattlesnake are laughable in comparison. Gallente is also pretty great, Vindicator is a beast.

From another thread.

Alara IonStorm wrote:
The Raven hits all the good sweet spots when talking T1 Ships.

Pro's

* Selectable Damage (Unlike Lasers / Hybrids)
* Long Range (Unlike Autocannons)
* Not affected by Tracking Computers
* Low Skill Training (Unlike the T2 Sentry Dominix and T2 Guns)
* Ridiculously Long Range (Worth a second mention, you can hit anything in lock range.)
* Easy to use (So easy)
* Missiles are very accurate (Unlike Rails / Artillery) (Presision for Cruisers or Rigors which lets you hit Cruisers with standards. Fury with Rigor and Painter on Battleships)
* Advance ment with no extra skill training into the CNR. SNI as well is good for the lazy

Cons

* Middle of the road DPS
* Weapons have little PvP cross over
* Counting Missile Launches do to flight time
* Poor Scan Res and Speed (Range makes up for speed except for slow boating to gates.)

I hear good things about the Sentry Domi if you want to go the training. Maelstrom is an absolute pain to use with its speed / range combo but the Mach Vargur are great if you can front the ISK / Training. Lasers are good but trap you to EM Damage.

It'd take me around four days to fly a raven :D

Maelstrom is a great mission running ship.

think I used something along these lines before upgrading to a Machariel:

Hobgoblin II x5
Hammerhead II x5
Warrior II x5

I would advise against training for a Raven - if you have low SP you want to train skills that are useful in a variety of situations.
Training for a basic Drake and then switching to Minmatar is a sound decision - Drake, Hurricane, Tempest, Maelstrom are all popular ships.
Only train for a Raven if you want go for a Scorpion - otherwise the cruise missile skills are useless and rokh fleets aren't nearly common enough to justify training caldari battleship for a new character.

What really sucks is the guys who have 15-20m SP and join a pvp corp/alliance thinking they are now (finally!) useful - only to find out that training straight for Gallente ships was maybe not the best decision and that nobody is interested in their special snowflake rail Brutix.
Even if you don't plan to do pvp any time soon, make your training decisions with common pvp doctrines in mind.

That name belongs to the Tengu now. Raven is a has-been, washed up and out-classed by superior ships.

I personally didn't want to train to a raven. When would I ever use cruise missiles ever again except for pve? At least with the tengu you can pvp with it. There are also more ships that take advantage of Heavy and Assault missiles.

If you go missiles, be sure to get the support skills to reduce your mission time. I noticed you had none of them trained.

Obviously something you can work up to, using an arty maelstrom. Better to train useful skills rather than waste skillpoints into missiles.

As much as I hate to say it, the Arty Mael will work fine for most missions. Though make sure you have decent drone skills for any frigs that get to close.
