As many of you may have noticed the t1 miner mods have gone crazy in jita. Someone for some inexplicable reason has been buying them up for inflated prices. 350,000 isk per unit for miner 1 mods for example, as well as even more for the different meta levels. His name is "Chris rageonthis" he is not directly connected to an major alliances and his true identity is unknown and I presume he is an alt of some sort.

The scale of this enigmatic endeavor is hard to grasp exactly however he did recently post a contract in jita local. The contents of which were this.

Civilian miner: 32662

Cu Vapor Particle Bore Stream I : 1384

Dual Diode Mining Laser I : 7705

EP-S Gaussian Excavation Pulse : 8038

Gallente Mining laser: 1106

Miner I : 24794

Miner II : 1946

XeCl Drilling Beam I: 13470

Asking Price: 45,000,000,000 or 45 billion isk

It is unclear whether his motivation is profits or chaos, we may never know. As of writing he still has up a buy order for Miner Is at 350k.

Update from jita local chat logs:

[06:20:25] Chris rageonthis > the impact has spread to all regions, checkyour alts

[06:20:47] Chris rageonthis > hehe, not about prophits about tears

[06:20:55] Chris rageonthis > do you by missiles for the profit?

[06:21:12] Chris rageonthis > i buy market share as ammo... real influence

(I slightly edited chat logs taking out links to contract)

Update again:

[06:58:53] Chris rageonthis > black - to clue you in, and thanks for helping, prices went up too quickly and i need to advertise this batch of goods to help drive down the prices now that everybody has gone through all the effort to bring them to me

Interesting he continues to infer that this will continue and that this contract is not the end of his endeavor.

Based on his jita chat and so on I'm going to assume that he's simply a ****ing moron with delusions of grandeur.

[06:51:43] Chris rageonthis > i bet one of your friends is actually good at this game and would know what to do with this [Multiple Items]
[06:52:18] Chris rageonthis > and why this next few patches mean this is funny as hell [Multiple Items]
[06:52:27] Chris rageonthis > epic
[06:53:00] Chris rageonthis > if ccp like burn jita, they will love this

etc etc.

that's what I thought at first. He's also telling people he'll "let them in on the plan" for the price of his contract. I doubt that will work but it's indicative that he might be doing it somewhat for the potential for profit. Still more likely in my mind is some kind of market manipulation or griefing. He was a member of Dreddit for some period of time if he was a front for them then he would have a lot of resources to work with.

Buy order for a M0 mod that's higher than the BPO cost, and several times build cost (IIRC) is just nuts. As I said in scc-, just buy the darn BPOs and make your own.

As of last night he couldn't claim to have bought all of them either, just need to look in the non-hub regions. :p

Tears?

Buying several hundred of an item at a time which is easily churned out for under 30k for 1.2m and filling my buy orders at 100k, just to buy them back at 1m?

colour me confused, but my wallet is very happy either way. Give it a month or so, and offer to buy them back for 30k each ^^

If you want to get everything of an item, just put up a reasonable priced region-wide buy, you will get flooded with more than you know what to do with in less than a day^^

I still stand by my theory that TEST are going to launch an all-out assault using ships fitted only with Mining Lasers. Its a good theory.

EDIT: Alternative Theory, you know how CCP always say there is a lot of loose isk in the economy? We just found a pile of it, and moved it to our wallets.

No idea what this cook is doing..

It does however give point to try and get traders to stop the patty cake games and be smarter..

Always split your stacks in the minimum of 2 when you have spare order, preferably 3. Make each stack rise in price from 25%-100% at each step.. This would make these all buy out manipulations less used as as a scheme, since most people would find the wallet lacking when fighting an exponential rise in price like that..

In general the Jumbo stacks being flipped and whining of potential bots goes to show how lazy current marketeers are..

It seems that EVE players fail at the most basic business 101, and is just playing the game mechanic. The exception being the rather complicated strategies that do go on in null.

Its taken 5-6 years to get Push and Red Frog, the most obvious and most vital part of civilization..

Will it really take another 4-5 year before we see effective use of storefronts or mail order?

I think the first rule in biz afaik is location location location.. That does not mean you all just go bet on Wall street..

Don't you mean the man who made a mark on the wallet?
Get 10x unresearched BPO's for miner I's and start making isk.
until he's bored of giving you isk.

this is the best "give me your isk and i'll double it" scam i've ever seen.
And he's actually doubling people's money.

Quite a strange notion. If I list 1000 joysticks at 50k each and 1000 joysticks at 100k each.

1. I just wasted a slot.
2. Buyout'er can just buy the first stack and list for 99k each, which would be harder for him if the first stack was 2000 units deep.

Also, I don't see a single trader complaining about this buyout'er - not in this thread, not in the chat. Seems that we're all taking his money.

I hope all you Miner I manufacturers and Traders enjoyed today. I only wish I could be there when the guy realizes he isn't going to get his money back. Or create Burn Jita Mk II by buying up over-produced Mining mods.

Maybe he built a timemachine *in EVE* and is going back to 2003, selling all those juicy miners, builds the first titan before Ascendant Frontier Alliance does, makes them his slaves and defeats BOB before Goons know what is happening ... and thereby creates a paradox that will ultimately swallow the world. You guys just don't see the BIG PICTURE!

That, or maybe he just never heard of the miracle that is T1 BPOs... and just assumed that the removal of drops for meta 0 items meant there were no more miners created in-game and he had the sole monopoly on it.

Amusing either way :p

Or he bought all that isk from farmers and is doing this to spread the ill gotten money around to as many people as possible to confuse ccp in tracking it and get some unwary people suspended/banned.

I've seen it done in swg, rift, wow, and coh.

1. Someone creates new char named Chris Rageonthis (as in Chris, Rage on this!)
2. This same person has then either access to real Chris' account (angry gf/wife???) or access to Chris' corporate assets as a corp member and then transfers/steals all the items/ISK to Chris Rageonthis char.
3. Then this person buys stuff for hugely overpriced prices and makes Chris loose billions in the process
4. The one who did this get delicious tears out of Chris.

Am I right?

I'm liking this one. Hopefully we can get closure on this at some point to find out what really happened.
