SalvageAfter doing level 3 and four missions, is it a good idea to warp back to the zone to salvage?

If so.. What ship should I use for salvaging?

And how would I fit it..? A link to a fitting would be amazing ^-^

Thank you ^^

Noctis is like 80 mil though, is a really large improvement from a destroyer and does it move faster? o.o

Giant improvement. Look at its ship bonuses:

Quote:
ORE Industrial Skill Bonus: 5% bonus to Tractor Beam and Salvager cycle time and 60% bonus to Tractor Beam range and velocity per level.

It doesn't move faster, but it can snag wrecks from much farther away, and Salvagers work faster. It's made and specialized for salvaging, unlike destroyers.

It doesn't move faster (might even move slower)

But it gets bonuses to salvagers and tractor beams (ORE Industrial Skill Bonus: 5% bonus to Tractor Beam and Salvager cycle time and 60% bonus to Tractor Beam range and velocity per level) and a cargohold that will take on a lot of salvage to fill it

EDIT:

Damn, due to connection hick-up Petrus has beat me to it

Ahh!
Is it pointless getting a noctis if you haven't even got salvaging maxed out?

Just feels like such a waste.. Leaving all those wrecks behins after a mission,

Noctis works fine with related skills at One, but the more you raise ORE, the further your tractors go...I run with a MWD. Destroyer is fine but Noctis rocks.

A noctis surely is a huge improvement but if you're concerned with investing 80mil in a hull, stick to a destroyer, remember not to fly a ship you can't afford to lose, that's a decision only you can make.

That 60% bonus per level from ORE Industrial Skill is huge for Noctis.

At level 1: 32km range for Small Tractor Beam I
At level 2: 44km range
At level 3: 56km range
At level 4: 68km range
At level 5: 80km range

Might not be worth it for level 3 missions, but once you start salvaging a lot of level 4 missions definitely consider getting one. You can then just warp to middle wreck and stay there while pulling all other wrecks to you. I have 68km range and I've only seen few level 4 missions where wrecks don't fall within 68km of middle wreck.

(There is also Small Tractor Beam II incase you want even more range.)

As for salvaging module, the T1 module works but you might want to consider training for T2 if you salvage a lot.

The Catalyst is the largest destroyer (1261 m3), and makes a good salavager for low-level missions.

An advantage to training for the Amarr Coercer (1206 m3) is that you also have the prerequisites for a Bestower, the largest low-skill industrial. In my opinion, everyone should train for a Bestower anyway, as it takes less than half a day.

The Minmatar Hurricane battlecruiser is also a good salvager with up to 3103 m3 cargo. I still use one for exploration (wormhole sites), as it has more mids than a Noctis.

With the recent changes to the loot table I haven't seen a need for more than 1200m3 of cargo space to loot a level 4 mission. Using a BC for mission looting these days is debatable at best.

I have a couple of Noctis knocking around which I bought about a year ago when they cost around 45M each. They are great salvaging ships. However! They were designed when much greater quantities of loot dropped in missions and they needed a cargo capacity in the 3K region, which put them into the Battlecruiser size class.

Since then there has been a number of changes to the game which has eroded the advantages of the Noctis over the Catalyst.

1. Smaller quantities of loot dropped
2. Ability to use MWD in mission spaces
3. Increased suicide ganking

Sure the Noctis has great bonus' to the tractor beam range and speed, but this is offset by abysmal ship speed and agility. This effects the time it takes to get into the mission space, especially if you have a few jumps to go. A Catalyst destroyer isn't taxed in the cargo capacity department anymore and can whizz around the mission space much faster, basically (for high sec missions) there is not a lot of difference time wise in using a Catalyst and it isn't likely to be targetted by a suicide ganker.

If I was starting out I wouldn't bother spending my Isk on a Noctis, certainly not if it was in short supply. I'm surprised to hear that they now cost 80M.
