Why is the insurance such a joke on these things?

If brute force isn't working, you're just not using enough.

Please Note: Any advice given comes with the caveat that nothing will be suitable for every situation.

Insurance is based on the cost of the minerals it would take to build them, not the market price to buy the finished ship.

I think. That's also the reason T2 ships aren't well insured. The cost of advanced components never gets factored into the replacement cost for insurance purposes.

Insurance is for people who lose.

Faction Battleships are for winners.

Although I like Alara's answer more, this is correct.

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

So if you lose a faction battleship, what does that make you?

Ironically, it paints you as a noob more and more with each question asked. Lurking silently would give you most of the information, without activating a huge flashing light over your head ^^

It's never wrong to ask, sharing information is the purpose of these forums.

I'd also suggest that losing a tier 3 battlecruiser to a Hulk in highsec is a brighter beacon of noobiness than asking a question.

Just sayin.

If you choose to fire on hulks in high sec if youre not in war with them then yea its stupid espicially since a tier 3 bc is not a tanker but a heavy gunner with large turrets shooting on a medium target is just stupid Shocked

You say that like there is something wrong with being a noob. If I'm a noob then I'm a noob, although a rather old one.. Asking questions is a good way to learn, and as you grow and learn in this game, you'll learn to ask better questions. Not only that but you'll be able to answer the new noob questions on this forum which will further add to not being seen as a noob anymore.

But hey why would you care if people in a game or on a forum view you as a noob?? I'd much rather be appreciated by my friends and family in rl.

Heun.

p.s. Since we're hijacking this thread anyway and the OP's question has already been answered, can somebody tell me why it's a bad Idea to use a torp raven in L3's? I mean torps do soo much dmgt hey really must kick ass don't they??

Well, someone has to ask all the questions for all the lurkers to get the answers. If everyone just lurked, these forums would be Shocked

I don't think the words kick ass and raven belong in the same sentence (quite aside from torps and L3s), but for some reason in the last few days I've developed a really strong hate for Ravens apparently.

This looks like a baited hook to me, but heck, I will bight.

1) Torps do less than full damage against ships that have a smaller signature radius than the Torp’s explosion radius. L3 missions have small ships, so Torps do less damage to them.

2) Torps do less than full damage against ships that are moving faster than their explosions velocity (61 m per sec for Inferno Rage Torpedo’s for example) and small ships in L3 missions fly fast. Actually just about any ship will exceed 61m per second, so you would almost never do full damage.

3) Torps are close range, and Rats usually do the most damage at close range, making them harder to tank than if you were kiting them 60 km out. This would be more of an issue in level 4 missions where the ships do more damage.

Anyway, that is my best guess as to why torps don’t kick ass in L3 missions. I am guessing that you already know this, and just ask to get someone to explain it to the lurkers.

Yes they'd be a lot quieter but a lot better, without people crudding up the place with 'What's a good level 4 raven setup' (good god!)
