Hello!

This is a blog promotion post so if anyone finds this interesting please do check it out!

Who am I and what do I write about?

I have been playing EVE for almost 5 years. I have spent 98% of my time in EVE trading and manufacturing and researching and around 1% running missions. Even though my initial plan was to do PVP! But somehow I got caught in earning ISK... and forgetting to really play the game and do fun things!!!

My only prior experience in PVP are about two weeks or so spent in RvB almost 2 years ago. And that's pretty much it!

In my blog I am writing about my adventures as I attempt to solo PVP. Even though I have been playing EVE for so long I am discovering that I know practically nothing about real PVP.

How is this blog any different than the usual "learning to PVP blog"?

Well I would assume that most people learn to PVP rather quickly. And reading these blogs I find that they are struggling with lack of skill points and lack of ISK. I on the other hand have a pilot with ~65M skill points that is practically 100% combat oriented. And I have more ISK than I could ever spend due to my years of trading and accumulating ISK but never spending it. So what happens when you have the skill points and the money, but no idea how to PVP?

Thanks!

Hey, man. Welcome to the magical world of eve pvp. I'll give you the advice I give to our new recruits. First, leave the cloaky shenanigans for after you know how to PvP well. It's a lot of fun, granted, but if you start off doing said cloaky shenanigans it just promotes risk adverse behavior which will stunt your growth as a pvper.

There are a ton of great resources out there for learning how to PvP. Here are some of my favorite:

Kil2 and Kovorix's youtube channel: www.youtube.com/user/jampyzero
They are rapidly becoming the leading authority in the community for teaching people how to do solo and small gang pvp.

Eve is easy youtube channel: www.youtube.com/user/eveiseasy
What became a highly publicized failure started off with some fantastic training vids.

Bringing solo back podcast: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=42133&find=unread
The other project from Kil2 and Kovorix, this is a fantastic tool for teaching pvp. If you use only one resource that I give you, make it this one. Not only do they discuss what they do, they also explain why.

Flight of Dragons: http://flight-of-dragons.blogspot.com/
One man's journey to becoming awesome at pvp. He flies only frigates, but his approach to PvP is spectacular.

The next two don't directly teach pvp, but they discuss interesting topics regarding the issue.

Altruist: http://www.evealtruist.com/
Former director of Agony Empire training academy. See especially his articles on how tracking works and how to set up your UI.

Scram Web: http://scramweb.blogspot.com
Another interesting blog. Lots of good stuff.

I prefer to learn in less expensive stuff, just so you don't feel bad when you lose it. Not only that, but if you start off pewing with something shiny, you're not going to know how to use it and will just be wasting your isk. My advice is to find a ship that you want to learn how to fly, and then figure out how to do a cheaper version. Say you like the nano cane, the shield ruppy behaves almost exactly the same. Fit up a few of them and go have fun. You'll learn how to pew and won't feel bad about whelping a ship you had no business flying.

Have fun and go pew things in the face.

Thanks! Those really are fantastic resources. And yea, I agree that cloaky shenanigans might not be best way to learn - but they sure are fun. I will definitely try out shield Ruptures, already got a pair waiting for me when I get out of wormholes! :)

Its an interesting read so far. Whatever you enjoy keep doing, at the very least you're going to get really good at d-scan, scanning with probes, and learn about target reaction times and typical responses.

I don't think there is a "right way" to go about learning solo PvP, only a "wrong way" which is the way that makes you want to not do it anymore. I like the stand up fights more than the bomber stuff but sometimes its a ton of fun to wreak havoc in a WH with a bomber playing submarine warfare.

Just my 2 cents, I look forward to seeing how this develops.
