I'm worried about coming back, advice?

Hello everyone,

So like my title says, I'm a returning player. I didn't play terribly long, I'm only sitting on 6mil SP. This account hasn't been played in a year. I foolishly kept paying sub thinking I'd be playing the next day, but it just never happened.

I'm worried about finding a corp though, when I get back into the game. Back when I used to play, I had been a part of Suddenly Ninjas, which didn't exactly have the best rep at the time. On top of that, now I have a year of inactivity with an NPC corp, and as this was my first character, quite a bit of corp hopping scattered in there. I had issues with not knowing how to find a good corp, and got suckered into joining quite a few inactive corps, or corps that just flat out lied about what they actually did.

I don't want to come back and be stuck in NPC corp due to stuff that happened over a year ago. I'd rather not completely abandon this character either. Just not really sure what to do.

There are so many corps in EVE that you can certainly find a home if you really want to.

Just come back and keep the char. Unless you really hate it for some reason there's no reason to waste 6M sp.

2nd thought, you might want to wait for a week or 2 untill the bugs from yesterday's patch are gone and people get bored with Diablo III P

Any decent corp will ask you about your history or let you explain about your previous corps.

And as a recruiter myself, I'm not overly worried if a player in it's early days spent some time corp hopping (to a degree) and will just ask why he did it (and check killboards etc for unwanted stuff).

Same counts with inactivity for a year in a NPC corp, that is actually not that odd. There are plenty of people who took a break from EVE and came back after a year or so.

Point is that a good corp will let you explain your stuff. Also keep in mind corp recruitment/joining is a 2 way process.

It's not only what you can offer to the corp, it's also what the corp can offer you.
You are signing up for that corp, why not expect the corp offers you stuff (can be stuff in the range from Ship replacement up to just a friendly community, all depending on what you expect from EVE corps)

There are plenty of corps that will be willing to accept you. Many new players jump around trying to figure out what they want to do; I got lucky to land in the right place from the start. Anyways, if they're not willing to let you explain your past, you probably shouldn't be joining them anyways.

Many people, including me, go inactive for a while. I've been inactive for the past three months or so myself, and have only just been getting back into the game in the last couple of weeks. That shouldn't really be a problem, although I'm not sure why your old corp kicked you out over that. When I was talking with my CEO, he said that a lot of corps didn't kick inactive players out until they had been gone for over a year. Maybe I just misheard him, as it was on TS3.

Some corporation kick inactive members, mainly to keep the corp 'active'.

A corp that has 40 members in the corp where only 10 are active give false idea of corp size.
Also inactive members not really have to be inactive, you can get a spy into the corp/alliance and just don't log it in and use EVE-gate to read any mails sent out (or as of lately, EVEskunk.com)

Also, the amount of members that can be in a corp at the same time is classed by the skills of the CEO (or the last person to update the corp info). Inactive member take up space that can better be used by active members.

These are things why people are usually kicked from corp for being inactive, the timeframe on when people get kicked depends on the corp itself. My corp doesn't have a set time you have to inactive to be kicked, we from time to time just move through our members list and see who was inactive, if we heard from them (gave reason why inactive, not be ingame but did join TS3 for instance), suspect if they do return in a short while and last if there is a valid reason to keep them in corp (aka long term members or people with special relation to the corp tend to last bit longer inactive then new recruits).

We do sent out a mail when they are kicked explaining why they got kicked and also that they can always contact us to see if they can rejoin when the get active again if they wish too.

No reason to worry. Hit up the recruitment section of these forums and see if anyone catches your eye. You can also look in game, either way once you find a corp. Research them, use their public chat to speak with pilots. Find out if they do what they say they do. Finding a good corp can take time, but it is time well spent if you find the right people.

...another option would be to see if someone wants to buy (with isk of course) your existing character.

You can always start a new one fresh while waiting to see if the old character has any value. If you are successful in selling off the character...your new character will have a bonus amount of isk to start with Big smile

Obviously, additional isk at the start helps players obtain the more expensive implants and skill books desired.

Good Luck!
