Currently long range weapons uses almost all if not more than all of a ships powergrid.

Even with all level 5 skills a moa with 5 250's has only 39 pg left for fitting.

With all Level 5's a Ferox with 6 250's has 180 power grid left.

A brutix can fit 7 tech 2 neutrons and a 10mn micro warpdrive with 100 powergrid left over.

Rails even have higher CPU requirements, and use nearly twice as much capacitor.

The range benefit of these weapons would be good if they were easier to fit, but currently they are worse than short range in every way besides range. Please make long range weapons have lower fitting.

Medium sized Railguns are still ****.
Step up to a Rokh.

Well at least if he doesn't have top skills related. Once it's done it's not that much of a problem exception made to some ships in need of rebalance, top skills for rails are not an option.

I wonder how things would be different if they gave Long Range Weapons similar grid / cpu requirements as short range weapons.

Would it imbalance things or make things more fun?

Medium rails are meh.

Also, Moa sucks, and the Brutix and Ferox suffer from Tier 1 BC syndrome.

Will be happy when the HM Tengu stops laughing at the rail Proteus.

Probably, having more room (fittings free) for tank modules could make some ships having Active Rep Bonus actually worthy without some pathetic fit relying on cap boosters that take all your cargo space and limit your operation radius.

But this you already know it Lol

I always found the largest caliber medium guns, especially the long range guns, better suited to battle cruisers, faction cruisers or T2 cruisers than T1 cruisers. And even in those cases they usually mean less tank or mobility or whatever than you'd like.

250 II's on a Moa? 936 / 975 PG used.
On a Vexor? 748.8 / 843.75
On a Thorax? 936 / 1025
Heavy Beam II's on an Omen? 1237.5 / 912.5
On a Maller? 1237.5 / 1125
720 II's on a Stabber? 990 / 875
On a Ruputer? 990 / 1075

Actually, it looks like rails are the easiest long range weapons to fit. Hall hybrid gunboats can fit a rack of 250's without extra PG. No laser ships can, and of the projectile ships only the Rupture can. Oh, and HML II's on a Caracal. That's it for T1, range fit cruisers.

Rails? Try Lazors, Tachs have such crazy requirements that only 2 ships in the game can fit em and not be ****, Oracle can fit em but only because its a sniper that needs no tank.

Updated to include all long range guns, never knew beams had such insane requirements.

Wait, you're using rails and going to switch to a Raven. Can there be more possible failure involved there?

Scorch and Barrage is long range, null... isn't. Hybrid boats are the only ones that actually have to fit long range guns for long range...Roll

Or train projectiles. Put ACs on Rokh, and it no longer fail... as much.

It's not like if short range T2 ammo had +25% tracking on top of some ships bonus. Switch from T2 to faction AM at end range and get the crap out of whatever from 25 to 100km (+/-)

Large Blasters had a nice buff in range thx to ammo changes however for using those ships are still in need of specific ship tweaks, like agility/mass and rigs/plates drawbacks.

I almost only fly Amarr ships so I do love me some Scorch, but I can't help agreeing with you. There's hardly any reason I'd rather have a beam turret than a pulse turret with Scorch.

if you are complaining that Rails/Artys are taking all your powergrid and thus, gimpimg your fit....

You doing it wrong.

Sniper = Sniper

Sniper =/= Brawler

Fit it as such.
