I admit i'm a bit of a noob and don't fully understand the back story to all the races. I understand that the minmatar hate the Amarr as they were enslaved by them and the Caldari and Gallente don't really like each other as they have different ideals that clashed however I don't understand why Caldari ships use hybrids?

When I first started playing I thought they got along and shared technology or something but I then discovered they arn't the best of friends.

As the other races have both small, medium and large turrets for both short and long range whereas the Caldari only have specific launchers for a specific size of ship, did they infiltrate Gallente space and steal their weapons and built ships with the sole purpose of using them against them as some sort of FU?

Any lessons in EVE race back story would be appreciated.

The Caldari once used to be a Memberstate of the Gallente Federation. Maybe thats the reason for using both Hybrids and Missiles.

The Caldari and Gallente used to be one people. They had a big civil war of sorts and now you have the two different nations. Hence (in a backstory kind of way) Caldari uses hybrids.

The backstory of caldari and gallente similar tech is actually quite substancial, to keep it short, here we go.

First off, Caldari and gallente cultures were from the same system. During the Eve gate collapse and space flight was virtually ended, both cultures survived in same system on different planets. Caldari Prime and Gallente Prime are in the same system of Luminaire. Because of this, cross cultural development occured. Similar technology.

The big difference in cultures and thus ship design and psychology is due to their home planet. Caldari prime is a cold and harsh place, with a narrow equitorial belt that is habitable. Thus the socialist/capitalist ideoloy of live for the state and the industrial function before form attitude developed, as seen in their ships.

The liberal and democratic federation of the gallente clashed with the capitalistic ideology of the caldari, and war was inevitable. Caldari's militaristic style training resulted in a combat centric design. Manned fighter pilots and small missile bombardment ships (condor for example) was more powerful than the slow and governmental gallente war tactics. Caldari had the might to win because they were soldiers. Gallente developed drone technology to counter the caldari manned fighters and missile craft, and in the end captured caldari prime. A mass exodus (see day of darkness II) had the caldari relocate to their current place.

The Caldari with their missile ships prefered long range sniper development, tactical combat, hence the difference in how they use hybrid technology. Gallente had the more traditional cavalry charge slugfest mentality. Disable your opponent and move in. This is how I interperate the backstory I have read.
