Patch day occupational questions

Hi,

I've been lurking a bit in low sec lately, I stick to T1 frigates because of the price so I mostly go in with either rifter, punisher or maybe merlin, and most of the time I can't find anything but rats and POS'd up people, or crowded systems with cynos. I got on an impromptu fleet roam some days ago that didn't end well for some and left me warping off with my hull in flames: a moment after we got in Tama (I didn't know at the time, but now I know it wasn't the best idea to go there), a navy carac and a couple tier 3 popped on grid and with my measly rifter, I didn't even get a chance to get in range for any tackling as t2 drones quickly tore through my shield and armor so no luck. Sad

I loaded all my toons skill queues with 8+ days long skills in case the DT is somewhat longer than planned Lol let's make use of this time to review some little questions.

- I already trained signature analysis to 5 and beside using sensor boosters that take up a med slot, is there anything else I can do to reduce the locking delay? With targets approximately the appropriate size for the type of guns I use, it still takes about 5sec to lock, but with smaller targets it can take around 3 more seconds and I wondered what can help people locking targets in less than 2 sec... implants?
Leadership grants 2 points bonus per level as well, but I guess it only works when part of a fleet, right?

- If I can't find anything in the asteroid belts I usually check dscan for the POSes and if that's where the few people are, give up and move on to another system, but what else could I do? I know I might end up blobbed or easily toast but if I can get a good fight now and then it's always experience, I just can't figure how else I could get murdered without resorting to can-flipping.

- With that said, there's a little confuse point in my mind, Say I *bait* someone, first thing they'd usually do is get a point to prevent me from warping away (provided they don't count on alpha to blow me from far far away), that makes them agressor: does the aggressor get the sec status hit alone? or the target as well?

- About point, I know the difference between disruptors and scramblers is the strength vs range, but I wonder how likely it is that I stumble on someone that would require me to have more than 1 scrambling point. To figure if I can make use of the extra range of disruptors.

- On a past fight, I tried to use a CZ-4 Concussive Spatial Destabilizer ECM, but the mod didn't have the effect I expected, I thought it would jam the target and prevent it from keeping the lock on me, but no. Did I misunderstand the mod?

Well, should be all for now, thanks for helping me figure these out

A faster scan resolution is one of the trade offs that you have to consider when fitting a ship. There are low and mid slots that can improve this, but for a solo frigate you don't have the room for them. But again for a frigate your scan res is usually good enough for most targets.

All leadership bonus' only apply when you are in fleet and an unbroken fleet hierachy is being maintained. Which among other things means that your squad, wing and fleet commanders have to be in the same system and undocked before their bonus' reach you.

Getting fights in low is not easy. I would suggest the best way is to join faction warfare. You don't have to join the fleets, but will find a lot more viable targets who are also looking for a fight and some of them will be solo.

Only the aggressor gets a sec status hit, they get a small one for shooting, then a second larger one for killing the ship and a third much bigger one for podding. The second hit is shared between all pilots that opened fire on the ship if it goes down, not just the killing blow. The third hit is shared between all pilots that fired on the pod. You do not take any sec status hits if you are at war with the target, another reason to join FW. You do not take a sec status hit if the target has a GCC (Global Criminal Countdown) running or is a -10 ie a flashy red, even if you are the aggressor.

A Warp Scrambler does more than just add 2 points of warp scramble strength. It also prevents MWDs from running which a Warp Disruptor does not. Very few people fit a single Warp Core Stabalizer, it they are 'travel fit' they fill the lows with them or not use them at all. So the choice really boils down to range vs the ability to shut down the enemies MWD. Which is best depends on the circumstances of the two ships involved, if you are in a fast ship and confident that you will catch them whether they have a MWD or not, you will want range. If you are trying to catch people on a gate you might want to prevent them MWDing back to the gate. But then if you are aggressing in low, you won't be fighting on a gate.

The ECM item you were using is chance based per cycle to work and is most effective against Caldari ships. Frankly, in an unbonused (non ECM) ship, that was a waste of a slot fitting it. It does work the way you intended, but the chance of it working even for one cycle is extremely low and against non Caldari ships almost nil.

Since Major Trant answered your questions, I'll leave his answer to it and just simply point out that you forgot a word :D

If you agress back the sec status hit to the person that pops you is less as well.

I know lots of people follow the 'go die a lot to learn' style.

I like the 'find a good PvP corp, join, learn, die, kill, enjoy, its so much better with people with a clue' field of thought.

Well, I guess until I really need to insta lock targets, I'll save myself the hassle of having booster alts and keeping a spare slot for sensor booster.

About the scram, I facedesked reading the answer because i indeed forgot about the MWD factor, my bad... same for the ECM, I knew I would fight a merlin so I chose this mod, but I'll never put it on a punisher again, I swear.

Thanks for the other helpful informations, when it comes to FW though, I tend to stay away from it, it didn't look very appealing yet, might be with Inferno but then again it seems more of a corp option than individual and while jumping clones for pewpew now and then isn't a problem, opting in and out of FW might not be very convenient, would it?

Why yes, but there's a context. Thanks for the input though.

Staxed, you sure? Lol

Mkay, little bump to dig the FW part.
If I want to join FW, will I have to leave my corp? or can I hop in and out of FW when I want to pew?

Unless your corp wants to join FW you will need to jump in and out.

You will need to join a FW corps to get involved in FW. Every empire faction has a dedicated NPC Corps in Faction Warfare. You can jump in and out of these corps any time you want. Entire player corps can also join FW too and you will find several good corps doing just that. However, getting into those corps requires a player director to accept you and that can be tricky.

The problem is that the opposing faction will be trying to get spies into those corps. These spies can get into the NPC FW Corps just as easy as anyone else and even known and identified spies cannot be booted. Everyone else in the NPC FW corps is tarred as a suspect until he proves otherwise. This normally involves, getting online regularly and killing multiple enemies. Problem is, not all FCs will allow NPC FW members to join their fleet. Bit of a chicken and egg situation. In short the first few weeks can be a bit unfriendly and quiet before you become known and then things take off and the option to join one of the player corps becomes available.

You can certainly jump in and out of the NPC FW corp whenever you like and if you want to solo that would be the way to go. If you want to join FW fleets, you will need to build relationships and get into one of the player corps. I'm sure some of them will accept you wanting to jump in and out, others may not, so make it clear on your application how you intend to play.
