I personally run 2 6850's crossfire-d across two 24" displays. I can run 3 eve clients, windows media player & a host of other programs without issue. This said ATI has had a chequered past, but as SoulSpeed says only recently have they improved.

I have never used a nVidia card, but to go out & say "nVidia is better than ATI" or vice versa is quite simply a close minded fans view point that takes none of the current information available in to account.

The are numerous comparisons run between the two brands across multiple cards showing that it is not as simple as one brand over another, furthermore the individual manufacturer has an impact (say sapphire vs HIS vs XFX vs ... for ATI cards).

To answer your question; HD6850 runs EvE fine, am currently running that list up there ^^ with just one due to fiddling around with another.

If your wanting to overclock, your mobo layout & the proximity of the 16x PCI slots may give issues, but that is another kettle of fish.

(for the record im running 750w corsair psu and have no power issues, as it is mentioned above that the 6850 draws more power)

Both cards are complete crap as they are AMD. You would be better off buying a GTX 8600.

Bounties for all! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=2279821#post2279821

My expert advice is to throw away anything related to AMD and ATI

Buy Nvidia, because they're always rock solid and don't break like ATI.

Also a final note, when did ATI EVER have a faster GPU?

Ive never owned an AMD card, but I know alot of people who do, me and a friend were fierce defenders of "our" brand back in the day, me always going NVIDIAAAAA and him going ATIIII.

As it just happens, hes had ALOT of trouble with his cards, overheating and simply breaking, only problem I ever had was my GTX 560 Ti where the fan broke, but thats not nvidias fault, as it was with the custom fan from MSI (never buying that **** again)

So from my experience, nvidia seems the most solid choice, and the new cards also favor nvidia reviews alone.

You may want to look at an EVGA or other Geforce 670 for multi monitor set up, they (EVGA) got a global 3yr rtb warranty now too.

I used to own an ATI card (Good old 9800XT) but more recently, they seem to have inherent problems with multi monitor support (called eye infinity), nvidia call it surround or something like that. But yeah, definitely better driver support on Nvidia accross the board, although some games favour both cards dependant on the designer/builder.

I used to have ATI cards and would recommend them to people, they weren't bad (you get what you paid for and I was hitting the 150$ mark) but the drivers absolutely sucked in every way. I could never go without a huge ordeal on installation and I always seemed to run into problems on every other game. Apparently it was bad enough someone came out with Omega drivers for ATI cards, and I was seriously considering using it but I am scared of using non-oem stuff. Lol

Within the last 6 months I have bought my first nVidia card ever. I couldn't tell you hardware-wise who was better (I splurged and bought a 350$ card), and I can't speak for the newer ATI drivers vs the newer nVidia drivers but my personal experience has been night and day with these two companies, and it may be very hard to convince me to come back to ATI.

So close...

It's an interesting choice actually. At stock speeds the 7770 will be slightly slower than the 6850 but the 7770 is likely to be a better overclocker that will bring its performance about on par with an overclocked 6850. So really it comes down to your preference. In either case you'll have to turn down the settings in order to get decent frame rates running the clients side by side.

I'm torn between the HD 7770 and the HD 6850, here the price is very similar.

7770 and 6850 are almost same and give you 4 and half times more fps compared to what you have now with 3850.
If you manage to unlock the 6850 into a 6870 when you copy a fake bios and overclock you can get 6 and half times more but can risk damage so maybe not good idea to try.

Maybe better if you get GTX 460 (almost 5 time faster) or GTX 560 (almost 6 time faster compared to 3850) because EVE is optimized with nvidia a bit so maybe have less trouble.
Or a GTX 560 Ti if you have enough money for it (6 and half time faster compared to 3850).

Did some quick reading on the GTX 460 and I'm surprised that it did better than the newer GTX 550Ti. The GTX 560 is a little more than I'd like to spend right now.

Being the card is about 2 years old now, I'm hoping stores here are still selling the GTX 460.

Anyone with GTX 460 running similar Eve setup as mine?

Monitor 2 is running Eve client at "Fixed Window" @ 1920@1080.
