so yes, youre all kinds of badass when you have the time to get into the belts. When you dont though, the miners return, the supply continues. All youve done is make speculators jack up the prices, and smart people like me rich as we bought all kinds of isotopes before the prices went crazy lol

a miner needs to mine for 30 hours to replace their ship

you gotta be a very stupid miner to try to fo this cause you're looking at a solid week of finding our downtime (when during our downtime we've driven out so many people even our weaker tzs need to scout everything to find targets) and mining without getting ganked until you break even

that's a bad gamble

our downtime is right now and people are busily trying to gank the handful of macks and hulks they can still find

that's the great thing about our weekend purge there's no herd safety even at our weakest points anymore because the rest of the herd is already devoured

the initial price spike was pure speculation, the effects of the supply choke have not yet really been felt and we are currently seeing profit taking from stockpilers

First: Post drives speculation. Speculators buy up lots of oxytopes and hold, supply constricts, demand increases as people get paranoid about keeping their POS supplied and stockpile, price goes up.

Second: Speculators begin to reel topes out on to the market. If they were smart, they'd take profits slowly, but they're idiots, so they dump, driving price down. Impact of ice interdiction hasn't traveled through the supply chain yet and stockpiles haven't yet run out, so supply is now increasing while the initial demand shock has reduced somewhat (speculation money is now selling instead of buying, the paranoia shock is past). Price drops. This is where we are right now.

Third: Interdiction continues. Stockpiles run down (speculators with minimal warning - i.e. non-GSF finance folks, and thanks for warning us, Weas, I mean, really, would a couple days to get some oxy topes into my hangar be so much to ask? - can only have stockpiled as much as was on the market at initial news release, which was ~2 days worth of supply IIRC). Supply is still constricted - not cut off, just constricted - and profit-taking is reduced, meaning that supply/demand is again going to drive a spike, this time longer term. The people who still have stockpiles are the smart ones, so they reel them out slowly, not spiking price downwards. Price increases and the increase is maintained.

Fourth: DRF finishes converting some operations over to ice mining. DRF exports of blue ice products begin, price crashes, speculators who aren't out of the market yet get burned.

Good question, tho: why are market forces hard to understand?

we weren't sure how to warn people without it leaking, so we mentioned in gsisk we were going to do a "market manipulation" of oxygen

I meant to try to find people who were moon mining with gallente towers and warn them but forgot sorry :(

It will take time for the currently available supply to run out. Once this has happened, prices will start to rise dramatically.

Wow. There really is no place or purpose for a new player in all this. All territory is locked down with power blocks in cold war. Big boys just pissin' on the rest... pointless.
