Bounding spheres' fun, got bounced out of a huge veld roid when I warped to a corpmate with a covetor few days ago, never thought I'd see that boat reaching 3km/s+ some day.

Happened to me twice, I think it happens when an error occurs and the server doesn't know where it should put your ship. If your corp has a POS in the system, you are teleported there. If not, somewhere else... like the sun.

Once this happened to me in my Orca and I was teleported into our POS. After the first shock I thought: Uh, nice. Another time I was teleported to a random location when I entered a random system. That was not so nice, since I just wanted to peek in and now I had to scan the whole system to find the exit again Evil

I'm surprised nobody has made the connection to the Awakened Infomorph yet. Remember that live event?

For those who don't remember, the Sansha invaded through one of their peculiar 'Violent Wormhole'-s and during the battle, a mysterious entity appeared called the 'Awakened Infomorph'. It said some random stuff, and jumped some random guy about 200km from where he was, maintaining speed, velocity etc, then vanished.
It was also seen several other times before it simply disappeared. I smell something strange is happening re: live events and wormholes. Everyone keep their eyes open, as i think something has to happen soon enough.

My thoughts exactly Lol
Well, sleepers technically being a different species does constitute aliens, right? Blink

I've read descriptions of sleepers. Scary things. 12 feet tall, rip men in armor apart, jet black eyes.

The sort of thing you only see during a nightmare.

If he is the Awakened Infomorph, I have seen him on my TV! Should I be very afraid?

I once had a haunted Thanatos like that in my POS, left floating from an old member of the corp. No one else could pilot it, so it just hung in the forcefield.

When my corp joined a new alliance (i.e. began our own), I spent half a hour bumping it just outside the force field in preparation for the change-over, so it wouldn't get catapulted into deep space after downtime. After downtime, however...it was back in its old spot, as if it had never left.

"Christine" took on a life of her own and started taking day trips after that. Sometimes I'd find it a few grids over, coasting at 3k/s and enjoying the scenery. But every day at downtime, it'd be exactly in the same spot in the FF where it had floated for months before. I never changed the POS password, so I'm not really sure on what days the database decided it was due for a Sunday drive, or why it'd return with a new coat of polish.

Eventually I got a friend who could pilot Thannies to store it in an SMA and tame its wayward ways. Later, when we sold the system, we handed the keys over to the new tenants.

I sometimes wonder how the new residents are fairing with the spirited vehicle, and if they ever find its engine inexplicably idling late at night.

I kid you not, half way through your post this started playing in my head.

My story:
Corpmate jumps in through the unstable hole which collapses after him, several cloaked escort waiting for him to ensure safe passage to POS etc., but he is nowhere to find even though the jump cloak should already be gone by now. Mumble:
- Erm, did you jump? Who jumped?
- I did!
- Ok, where the hell are you then? What's your locus?
- *says the locus*
As silence erupts on mumble everyone can feel the growing urge to slightly panic.
- Sh*t, it's ours. but wtf happened? What's near you?
Orca pilot, probably overloading his brain synapses in an effort to grasp the situation, remains silent.
- Dude, WHERE ARE YOU?
- I'm...sh*t, i am flying like..FAST. I'm near the sun.
- SUN???
None of us have even heard about this sort thing happening before, so you can imagine how perplexed we were..
We tried to warp to him several times but at those speeds he was long gone. Took us a fair bit of time "catch him". Had a laugh in the end.

Not really related, but similar speeds:
Corpie managed to change the POS password, resulting in a Orca being pushed out of the force field. Another corpe just logged in a Cheetah and was in autowarp to his log off point, about (I think) 250km from the POS. He was decloacked and bumped by a speeding whale Smile Talk about probability...

A similar thing happens when you try to jump to a cyno that ends (or is blown up) before you can load grid properly. I seem to recall a dev post from a long, long time ago explaining it. It was something like, the system you're jumping from already said you're gone, but the system you're jumping to didn't yet get the message. So suddenly you jump in, but there is no cyno (or a WH in your case) to place your ship at any more. The placing algorithm defaults to zero coordinates, which is the middle of a solar system - or in the center of the sun.

(There was an exploit a long time ago where you could mess with the process and create ridiculously deep safe spots in some cases. But I would rather not go into details, even though I'm almost positive it has been patched very quickly.)
