Rook, Falcon or crosstrain to a useful race.

Cerb = missile sniper which = lol (HAM cerb might be okish but there are far better choices), might be a decent pve boat

Eagle = lolfailgun sniper, if/when hybrids are buffed this ship might be useful.

of course caldari cruiser V also opens up the Tengu which is pure win any way you slice it, the main draw of caldari cruiser V

pvp means you should fit a point
however once a cerb enters point range it dies
so you try and sit back and snipe to increase survivability
but then you face delayed missile dps which sucks

/shrug

cerb isn't made for solo/small gang warfare I don't think.

as for an eagle... I made a lol brick fit with a scrambler on it, a couple neuts/nos and an expanded probe launcher. no guns.
i guess it served that purpose well.

no one suspects the eagle! muahahaha

Rook for small gangs/solo though no one in their right mind will fight you in one (same as going 1v1 with a curse).

Falcon for fleets and extreme win and tears when your opposition rages in local and when you get randomly declared and killed by 3 thrashers.

I wouldn't fly a rook against equal numbers unless you have logi superiority. You will be primaried. You will die.

Falcons have that nice covops cloak which adds a ton to survivability, but they are somewhat situational.
If the fight is on the other side of the gate and you jump in, you will be primaried. You will die.

so, what kind of things would i be able to take down, slow moving ships? i would think you would have to have a buddy to keep them in your effective range.

Caldari HACs are great Gang ships, but Cerb is generally too thin for solo pvp (IMHO Caracal NI is a bit better for solo pvp...the 3 rig slots give you options as does the drone bay), and the Eagle as a blaster boat is meh (you will be kited to death) and worse as a Rail boat (You will be out DPS'd to death...until the Hybrid rebalancing happens, perhaps)...but better tank.

Caldari Recons, as an above poster noted, are situational. I like HAM rooks for a solo roam...but that is for pure excitement, not necessarily because I think I'll survive, lol. HM Rooks are a great addition to a gang as they have good range w/ ECM and the missiles...but are in general paper thin so will die on a gate if you aren't careful. And no cloak means no hiding until the situation calls for you.

Falcons have shite dps, but can be deadly solo if you know what you are doing. But as with everything in this game...if you make the wrong choice of targets you will die in a fire.

The falcon is superior, imo. But, after a while it gets a bit tedious to be dealing little to no damage. So, if you are the type of person who wants to be putting down dps on target, I would say go for the rook.

If you do go for a rook, please for the love of god, do not fit a cloak. I'd also recommend thinking about a sensor booster w/ scan res script. due to it being quite fragile, you really wanna lock target(s) before they lock you. A rook can easily die to 2 or 3 salvos if it is slow to lock and then misses a jam cycle.

The great thing about the Rook is that it can fulfil both the ECM and ECM-suppression roles. Meaning that it can use its 100 km HML range to apply DPS to opposing ECM boats. Sole logistics, too. Of course, relative to the Falcon you lose the cloak and the element of surprise, but it's a reaosnable tradeoff.

Eagle is deeply meh. It can outdamage a Muninn in EFT at 100 km, but the Muninn's higher volley and scan res means that you have to be shooting for about a minute before the EFT DPS advantage manifests itself. The only advantage that is does have is the ability to use faction ammo and have really good tracking at ranges where the Muninn has to use Tremor, but then comes along the Zealot with its even better tracking with faction crystals... It's also slow, stupidly hard to fit and has ****** EHP when you actually try to get worthwhile DPS out of it.

Cerberus is an interesting one. If you have a Cerberus in gang, then any hostile ECM boat or single logistics will only remain in the fight with your permission. Otherwise, 400 DPS to 240 km is heading its way. When Falcons were uncloaking at 200 km this was one of the best counters. Now, however, with sensible ECM optimals and instaprobing, such range has become devalued and unnecessary to hit ECM boats - you can rig up a Drake with HBT rigs and get the requisite range, for example. OTOH, that Drake would have to operate within ECM range - the Cerb can sit outside it. TBH, it's another ship that has suffered from the overpoweredness of tier 2 BCs. Not fundamentally a bad ship, just not really worth it these days.

Navy Caracal - fast, very agile. It's a frigate slaughter machine but people are generally aware of this these days. But it's a mobile ship with good DPS at range. If you're thinking about flying a Cerb, there's a good chance you'd be better off in a Navycal, unless you know exactly why you need the Cerb.
