I believe that you can give dogtags to certain agents for Loyalty Points.

Certain dogtags also allow you to access certain rooms in later missions. For example, the bonus room in the Level Four mission Angel Extravaganza is accessed with an Angel Diamond Tag.

Hope this helps!

P.S. Be warned that running too many missions against Caldari may lower your standings to the point that their ships will shoot at you when you enter their space.

No, empire faction ones required for some items in LP stores. Some of the pirate tags can either be used for opening gates in missions/exploration sites or be traded in datacenters for standings.

Also, I don't think there's a database (or somehting) around that actually epxlains you where you can use which tag.

I've found a couple links with google when I last checked, but information is sparse indeed.
There are I think, 4 agents per race that can give you a standing boost if you bring them pirate tags, though you need quite a handful of those).
The usual racial tags (federation lieutenant, republic commander, etc), are needed in volume too when converting LP into faction items. When docked in a station, open the LP store and display all to see the products that require dogtags and wich tags. Most times you'll need 2 to 5 different set of tags with a T1 mod some ISK and LPs to get one faction item.

DaOpa's website has a couple useful databases to play with for stuff like this. The LP store one is here.

For the empire faction tags it is easy: Sell them. You will use more the money in the first months than the LP store.

Also, check before buying anything in the LP store. Sometimes you will find it cheaper in the market than in the LP store.

Also note that the name of the tag does not imply its real value. A 'copper' tag of a certain type might be worth far more than a 'diamond' tag. Check the market, if you find there are not many for sale you may want to double check its worth. I've bought tags off people for 5000 isk that were worth a half million.
