I am considering reactivating an old account. Do I benefit enough from doing so despite my doubt?

I've heard quite a few say that they believe EVE to be a game which actually requires two or more accounts. How do you skill your alts differently from your main?

For instance, I'd like to train super-buzzard on this one, which will take three months, but before I start doing that I want to fix myself a good pvp-fit, which will take 10 days. Should I just aim for battle-skills with this character and re-activate the other account to sit on scanning skills, use that one to find wormholes, kill sleepers with this one (and take the other character to salvaging V) and make money that way to support both accounts? I guess that would be the intelligent approach, but in every game I play I want to create the perfect character, and Minmatar, which my other character is, doesn't come close to the greatness and physical appearance of my Caldari. It's not about role-playing or lore; it's about to enjoy looking at the image of a character you're playing.

I need to benefit greatly from activating that Minmatar. Truth be told, it doesn't have much more skills than this one, but it has 4- 5 months played (and therefore skilled) on it, so I can't really justify creating a new Caldari alt.

What would you do in my position?

I run at least 3 accounts, sometimes more depending on my mood.

EVE is certainly a game that benefits from more than one account (does not REQUIRE it though). If I were you, I'd focus on combat with that character, and reactivate the second account for scanning if you can afford that. It's the most efficient route.

Maxed scanning skills
T2 Salvager
T2 Codebreaker
T2 Analyzer

Loki with rigs and subsystems for probing (Minmatar)
Guns for the Loki
Nav skills
Misc this and that, tractor, cloak, etc.

Keep your main focused on DPS and tank.
Make your second account be supportive in every way. I can see easily a year into the support toon, and by then you will get the concept of how valuable he is to you. Try not to cross train them... 2 characters that do the exact same thing is kind of a waste. (within reason)

Will that be able to support my two accounts with PLEX, you think?

If you are planning on doing WH'ing anyway join a WH corp. Start a second account using a 21 day buddy key from yourself so you get the plex or 30 day game time on your main account.. Once you started the 2nd account rush the 3 character slots for PI. Something similar to:

Science: 4
Planetology: 4
Command Center Upgrades: 4
Interplanetary Consolidation: 4
Remote Sensing: 3
Advanced Planetology: 3

And then train them for a cheap hauler with cargo rigs. I personally use a Bestower and it gets up to 21.x K m3 cargo space. This lets you move your PI junk around. It takes about 13-14 days to get a PI alt to that skill set with a t1 hauler/rigs.

After I did the PI I turned one of the characters on my alt account towards mining/industry. WH's have very very very good mining sites.

Just from the PI alone in a WH you should be making 1.5b or so a month. That will let you start using plex on the accounts.

Then depending on how much you make a month from the site you may even be able to start up a third account (if you want) and have it play the skill queue game until it is the PvP character you want. Or better yet, save your isk and buy a character from the Bazaar that is already what you want it to be and run it on your main account while you have downtime in the WH.

This sounds fun, actually, since I've always wanted to go more deep in PI, but shouldn't I skill for astrometrics and the likes first on the other account?

I have alts fill a variety of roles depending on what I want to do. Usually I have one alt tagging along, sometimes as many as five if I am doing tasks that don't require much attentionspan such as mission/grav site mining.

3 seems to be the magic number though for me, any more and I get too confused and start missing things, any fewer and I am bored and feeling inefficient.

Usually my main is focused on the tank and damage. My alts will either follow me around in a Noctis and salvage for me, or they will fly a low-maintenance backup damage (assisting droneships, stealth bombers), or else they will fly logistics for tougher missions so I can concentrate more on gank and less on tank. I'm also working on getting an alt into an orca so I can go nomadic since I hate flying back to home back to switch ships depending on the gates I need to enter.

So, the roles that worked best for me were:

Main-battleship, alt-backup damage, other alt-salvager/booster/hauler

main-miner, alt-miner, other hauler/orca

main - cruiser/AF, alt-scanner, other alt-noctis/orca

It all depends on how good you are at juggling multiple screens, how good your hardware is for handling multiple sessions, and of course what you are willing to spend each month.

Trade skills, and put a jump clone in Jita

Train torps (A maxed covops pilot also makes a good bomber pilot) and the other racial frigates

Leadership skills - those bonuses are nice

When you've done Leadership, train T3s so that you can have even nice bonuses

Hauling skills (Blockade Runners and Freighters are both highly useful)

Train capital skills (Capital ships are for alts) - having a carrier to move your ships around with is a luxury you'll never want to lose once you've tried it.
