How do Jump Freighters traverse between high sec and low/null sec?

I see Jump Freighters on the Jita market, so assume they can use gates as well as their inbuild jump drives. But I'm interested in how they traverse the high and low/null sec borders, where the gate camps are most likely to be present.

Am I right in thinking that the restrictions on Jump drives in high sec refer to Cyno's. Namely that you can't lite a Cyno in high sec. Does that mean it is ok for a Jump Freighter to jump out of high sec to a cyno in low or null (in range), thus avoiding the gate camp on the way out? If not do you lite the Cyno while the JF is on the final gate in high sec, then go through the gate and jump immediately?

Coming the other way, I would assume you would always jump from null to low sec first (to avoid bubbles on the final null sec gate). But what is the common procedure to get from the last low sec system into high sec?

1. Do you put the Cyno right on the high sec gate, jump into system then go through the gate?
2. Do you jump into system alongside a station, so you can dock up if hostiles are present, then make a run for the high sec gate when nobody is outside the station.
3. Do you jump into system alongside a station, dock up and then ferry the goods to the station in smaller Industrials or an escorted Freighter?

1. No, you jump to the Station.
2. Yup. Preferably with a scout and not on a "kickout" station.
3. No, see 2.

Also, you can jump from High Sec to any cyno's in range. You can't light cynos in high sec so obviously cannot jump from Null/Low to High Sec. You need to use gates for this. All Frieghters / Jump Freighters can use gates.

As mentioned above by Skyly.

Going from hi-sec to low/null => you can jump to any cyno in range (mobile cyno or cyno generator)

Due to cyno restrictions in hi-sec, going from low/null to hi-sec =>

1.) You jump to a cyno that is in the docking perimeter of a low-sec station (long live the Tactical overlay), from there you will ship the JF to Hi-sec with alt / escorts.

2.) You jump to a cyno near a safepos in low-sec, with the security from the deathstar you can have a scout check the gate and warp to 0 and jump if it's free.

Fly safe,

You can often see JF's undocking from Jita 4-4 & cynoing out to some unknown destination.

1. Depends upon the 'lay of the land', so to speak. But yes, you can sometimes observe this as you imagine it at the Oijanen->Airaken gate.

2. Not many mess around with JF's while hostiles are active in a system given their cost, but sure, they'd jump in next to a station and dock up, jumping at out their convenience.

3. An escorted freighter? Mmmm,... mmmmm,.. I'm sorry what was the question?

Jumping into lowsec / nulsec is easy, and fairly low risk. You can't dock for 30 seconds after jumping (session change), so it helps to scout ahead, and uses a station / system that isn't busy.

Getting out of lowsec / nulsec back to hisec is trickier, as you have to traverse a gate from a border system, and they tend to be busy systems.

Never jump to anything other than a station. POS are deathtraps, especially with the change that forces you to jump 15 km from the force field.

Practice jumping on the test server, Singularity, preferably using the stations you plan to use on the live server, Tranquility. A good way to earn ISK on the test server: buy a freighter for 100 ISK, platinum insure it, undock, self-destruct, and repeat as much as you want.

A good tip for making your cyno bookmarks is to fit a Salvager 1 module. Hover your mouse above it as you get closer to station and get it as close as possible WITHOUT the edge of the salvager bubble touching the structure of the station.

That way you will always be in docking range and you won't bounce off the station when you cyno in.
