well no they arent the best, but yes they earn some good ISK :)
there are few steps to make good ISK if you want to be a pirete....
1st. Subscibe to full account otherwise nobody will look at you becouse youre just a trial who will disappear soon =]
2nd. finish all the game starting trials and go do some missions/explorations etc... at least untill you have hardened skills and fully understand what the **** youre doing :)
3rd. go chat with people in bigger stations or systems like Jita or other places, find recruters, negotiate for the terms of joining theyre corp and wuala youre in a corp, with some little expiereince some skills and they take you somewhere to hunt... some small trials that dont stay at hi sec, or some good fat miners :)

thats all there is to it :) eve has hundreds of ways to become rich :)

Actually if anything I am under the impressions being a pirate is one of the hardest ways to make isk in EvE, because you can often go days without getting any drops that are worth anything, it just is a matter of having access to the right systems I guess, however don't let that deter you pirating can be immense fun especially if you're a fan of PVP without the politics of nullsec.

If your asking which race is best to start playing as before you join a Player run pirate corporation(which is where real pirating happens) the answer is either minmitar or Amarian. Both races have a variety of ships that can be fit for either big tank or fast speed and dps. Fast speed and dps will be your best friend as a pirate.

Noir. and Noir Academy are recruiting apply at www.noirmercs.com I Noir Academy: 60 days old must be able to fly at least one tech II frigate. I Noir. Recruits: 4:1 k/d ratio and can fly tech II cruisers.

You can choose to behave like a pirate (steal, ambush, suicide ganking, ransom, spy, scam, etc.), and / or you can choose to work for a NPC pirate faction. The two are not related though, so you can choose to do one, the other, or both.

NPC pirate factions only have mission agents in nulsec (0.0 to -1.0 system security = anything goes) which is hard to survive in alone without joining a player-run corp that does NPC pirate missions. Be warned that NPC pirate factions are hated by all others, often even other NPC pirate factions, so you quickly become unwelcome in hisec (0.5 security and up) when you start working for NPC pirates.

You can behave like a pirate anywhere though. Yarr!

It is common to find player-run corporations dedicated to causing mayhem located in lowsec (0.1 to 0.4 security = not patrolled by CONCORD police force, but gates and stations have minimal guns, and there are minor security standing penalties for attacking the innocent), but there are some player-run pirate corps based even in hisec that specialize in suicide ganks, and hisec wars.

Folks seriously considering a life of piracy might want to read over Kahega's Ninja Salvaging Guide, still full of valuable information after all these years.

There is a really good PDF called The Beginner's Guide to Piracy. You can download it at http://dl.eve-files.com/media/corp/TheOrangeGuy/Beginners_Guide_to_Piracy_2.1.pdf

Pirates are not a race, they are a faction (actually, they are five factions: Blood Raiders, Sansha's Nation, Angel Cartel, Serpentis, and Guristas)

Their ships are expensive and better than their tech 1 counterparts. You do not choose them as a race, you simply train the skills necessary. They do require the skills of two races though (i.e. Vindicator requires both mimnitar and gallente battleship skills).

Pirates is not a faction. Rats in their machareels are not pirates.

Piracy is a playing style. Stop confusing new players.

By Race, he obviously meant Gallente/Minmitar/Amarr/Caldari(/Jove?). While the five of those are races, they are also factions. The next big factions (ignoring Khandid/Ammatar) are the pirate factions (and hence someone may have been confusing them with race).

By "specialty higher power ships" that pirates have access to (and, say, no one else), the only interpretation that makes sense is that it is referencing NPC Faction Pirates and Pirate Frigates/Cruisers/Battleships.

He was obviously not referring to a type of ingame behavior when he asked "Fawk Inqueerna > is pirates the best race in eve".

His misunderstanding of what constitutes a race and the general reference to a certain style of gameplay as piracy (which he may or may not have known) caused the confusion, not my response that addresses his original question.

Also, as people have referenced pirate space, they refer to any one of the five regions in which the pirate NPC factions make their homes, not low-sec (which, in reference to ISD Dualgate's comment, does not give or allow access to "some specialty higher power ships").

Piracy in and of itself is also poorly defined. For the most part, piracy (which has nothing to do with a race and thus the question asked by the OP) is considered unlawfully attacking other players against the will of Concord (just ruled out w-space and 0.0) with a desire to make a profit from it. Suicide ganking in highsec is often not considered piracy, as most pirates intend to get away with their ships. Taking a trip into lowsec for some pew fun is not piracy. Running missions in lowsec and using the profits to fund a PvP habit is not piracy. If your largest income source is not ransoms/drops, you are probably not a pirate.

People have misunderstood the OP's question, albeit he has used the word pirate incorrectly (twice).

The OP is really asking 'How can he become a corp thief'

It can be a lucative venture, but usually it takes a lot of time to achieve a big score.

It is easy enough to join a corporation, and most corporations will early on, grant you limited hanger access. At that point you can thieve away, gain a nice amount of low value ships and modules, drop corp and move on to your next target.

But to make it big, you need to get Director role assigned or even CEO and then take the Corp for everything they have, including their wallet, BPOs, POS modules and the contents of all their hangers. How long that takes? Depends entirely on the Corp, some are slacker than others. You could however, start your own corp, encourage Noobs to joins, encourage them to throw stuff in the corp hanger for shared access, ask them to make donations to the corp wallet for a planned POS or something and then run off with it all after two or three months. But it isn't something that is going to get handed to you for no work, you will have to work day and night at it like a RL job until the day of the sting.

Be aware that people will come after you if you make such a big score. So be prepared to biomass your character and start again or buy another off the character bazaar with your illgotten gains.

OP was trolling to make the point that the ISD's in help chat are often completely useless.

My personal experience is that some are great, and others are ill-informed, to put it kindly.

Frankly, I don't see why players older than 30days cannot go into the help channel. It's bombarded with questions going unanswered. If you ever read corp chat in the NPC corps, it's often a "Help chat lite" because the players can't get answers in the actual help channel.
