Big Bad Null Sec - Almost To Scared To Jump

Been in game for about 5 months and want to start branching out and looking for more opportunities to make money and learn PvP (i want to solo). Ive been reading a lot, to the point i should be getting a ******* degree soon in Eve.

People seems mixed on Null Sec being super dangerous or no big deal. Seems all very adventurous and risky but im not the type to worry about my kill/loss record

Can anyone comment on some of their experiences? How do you deal with the bubble gate camps? Gankers? Looking for real time info here on how the outskirts of null sec are. So far i have seen a lot of gank squads with bubbles at the entry gates from empire/LS but no real danger (being cautious) after getting past those jokers.

Looked up...saw this F***ING clown dropping like a rock.  Woke up in Vylade wondering what just happened!!!

It's just like high-sec but with different gameplay mechanics. Not big or bad at all, just do a lot of research (what you are already doing,) jump in a cov-ops or inty and take a look around, you will lose a few ships doing this but you'll learn something new everytime.

As for bubbles/ gate camps, if you keep a calm head and hold cloak you should be okay in a small, fast/ cloaky frig.

Just don't panic and you are set.

From my experience using the map with the many different filters is extremely useful, and if you are solo, avoid the entry systems and keep an eye out for 'bottle necks' in your route.

As for learning PvP, trial and error is a good tactic. Or join a PvP corp. Or join RvB. :P

But joining a good null/ low corp would be a fast track to getting where you want to be.

Just my advice.

If you are going to haul something and you need to use a hauler, you should use a t2 cloaky hauler or a blockade runner. (blockade runner saved me and 2 mining poses from a single roaming stealth bomber last night)

not necessarily hualing. how about ratting with a battleship. is it worth the risk of someone scanning me down in the back systems and swarming me?

If you are looking for solo action check out the NPC nullsec regions. These regions have stations you can dock in to repair or refit, & these regions usually have more traffic than SOV null sec.

Like Stink-eye was saying start out in a bomber/covert ops or interceptor and spend a few days scouting the area making bookmarks.

Some of the fun things you can do solo are :

1 set up a drag or stop bubble and camp it with a cloaky or fast ship; picking targets of opportunity.
2 fit a cloaky interdictor out and cloak it 2100 m below a gate and wait for targets of opportunity.
3 fit out a cloaky vagabond and go find someones ratting system, then post up waiting to catch someone slipping.

If you are any good, or fun to be around the locals will likely ask you to join them for joint operations or try to hire you.

Some tips on avoiding escaping gate camps :

1 make sure your session timer notice is turned on in your general settings, once it is you will see it just above the solar system identifier in the upper left corner of your screen.
2 when you jump into a well setup camp with bubbles and tackle wait out your session timer then burn back to gate and jump out.
3 unless you are in something very fast ( interceptor, cynabal ) don't even think about burning off gate.

Don't do it, you will die. it you want to rat get a gila, ishtar, vaga, or other high dps kinda tanky cruiser hull. fit it with a cloak & mwd. Then have fun ratting and cloak up when people try to hunt you down.

In an old thread, there was a discussion on how hard it was to move to nullsec from highsec and moving around in null.

Many were commenting on how it wasn't hard, while others were commenting on how difficult it was.

One point that hit me on that discussion was a big distinction between views of it based upon 1 simple criteria: Alt accounts. Those with them found it very simple due to having their own scout. The ones describing high risk and difficulty were describing trying it using 1 account.

Getting into and out of null is much easier in tiny ships - frigates. The larger you go, the less chance of successfully getting past choke-points and around BC-BS sizes, you won't get past them. Either your scout finds them, and you wait it out, or you find a different path (but they aren't called "choke points" for no reason. Often there isn't another path around or only by going a huge number of jumps - to then check ANOTHER choke point).

That's just something to keep in mind.

Don't expect your corp to provide you escort every time you undock to do something so either plan on using small ships or have an alt that can run point for you and be ready to wait out camps at choke points.

Once you get past choke points, there is a lot of empty space but those points, for nullsec, are lethal due to the tools they have to prevent anything from getting through that doesn't have exceptional GTFO abilities.

As long as you are prepared, it's not that bad. I started off in nullsec with 3M SP.

Prevention is the best: I have a scout alt in a stealthbomber or T3.

Gankers?

Once again, prevention is the best, so know your surroundings, use local+D-scan, etc. If that fails, I carry ECM drones on most of my PvE ships, other guys have a Falcon alt cloaked with them as they rat/mission/plex.

There isn't much danger of being camped unless you're on someone's intel network and generally-speaking only sov-null entities have truly effective intel networks.

If you want to try some null ratting, go to provi, NRDS makes it slightly easier to give it a try, well that is if you are not red to the locals, CVA. Its also the safest way to get into null. If you not red, they will not shoot you, just don't shoot them :). But once you in somewhere like KBP, you can get relatively easy access deeper into NULL.
Use the star map, it helps to some degree to see average jump, etc

Remember bubbles. Assume every gate will have one. Those are the worst obstacle for a new pilot in null. The second place goes to gate camps with bubblers.

Anyway the thing to note here is, NPC null is not a good place to learn stuff solo. Those who reside there typically will be good at pvp and if you really want to learn without the drama of sov null, then i'd advise you to join them.

Sov null, if your roaming in a stealth bomber will be very easy to transverse if you know how to escape camps and avoid bubbles. You will reported in their respective intel channels, but no one will make an attempt to catch a lone bomber. Only bad luck if you get decloaked by an existing gate camp with cans and stuff. You can take down quite a few ships with a bomber too. Just don't try bombing runs, those are useless. Fit torps and probe, pick a direction and keep moving.

I'd advise the south side as that is relatively easy.

I should warn you though. There is a 90% chance that you'll be bored to death of passing through empty systems again and again. And if you do find some ratters, they'll be in their pos before you can scan down the site. You'l see more action as a group since the residents are more likely to form a fleet for home defence when a bunch of neutrals show up rather than for a lone bomber.

When you want to log off, find a system with plenty of npc kills and sit there in a safespot cloaked up. Might as well as ruin their ratting when you are there.

Just don't ever talk in local. People get more pissed off/scared off those afk-cloakers who don't respond to their insults.

I like to suicide a smartbombing Erubus alt when I am going to go into Nullsec so that everyone is too busy blogging to watch the camps.

If you pay attention to the intel channel i think you will find that it is indeed safer than high sec. I recommend you give it a go.

I suggest you fit a T3 deadspace tengu or Loki and head straight to VFK. The more expensive your ship, the more likely you to kick ass. We honor 1 vs 1 duels at the sun, just let evryone in local know you want to challenge for a duel.

Channel that an alliance/coalition has up to report enemies incoming so the ratters etc will be able to get safe before they show up.

Also so possible defense fleets can be formed and setup in systems ready for the incoming reds.

The corporation that I run moved to npc nullsec a few months ago and we find it enjoyable. There are lots of friendly locals to fight and lots of rewards to be had from the belts, complexes, missions, wormholes, whatever strikes your fancy.

All you really need is a supply of minerals, some t1 hull blueprints and some patience. Fly cheap, don't cry about the inexpensive losses, learn from the experience and then cheer about the wins. You can trade two dozen t1 hulls for one t2 ship and do more than break even.

I've found npc nullsec to be a hell of a lot more fun than the big bad boring sov(sausage) fest of deep null. It's kind of like flying in lowsec actually, except fewer people.

But like I said, without a supply line of some kind (ships, ammo, modules) you're going to have a hell of a time. It's fine to lose a hurricane if you can build 100 more but if it's your only one or it takes you 5 hours to reship yeah you're going to burn out fast. Invest in blueprints and mins. Sure it's not hardc0re pvp pilot strategy but it sure as hell works. Don't fear industry, embrace it's power! bwahahaha!

As long as you've got an up to date clone and you're flying something relatively cheap all you need to do to learn how to deal with gatecamps, bubbles etc is to just dive in headfirst, see what happens and then learn from any mistakes you may have made.
