Old news is old, CCP have already said that the Minmatar V3 stuff won't be ready for the initial Inferno release.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Hound. It looks very nice.

As for the Reaper... I think it looks fine, but it probably is the least cool looking out of all the newbie frigates.

The V3ing of the Reaper is fine, some coolness in there. I just can't get away from the lack of credibility in the design; mechanically it makes no sense and is shocking as an introductory ship for hooking new players. Rearranging it's component bits into something more symmetrical fixes it instantly. I have a plan to save up a few hundred million and buy CCP from its equity partners - just to make them fix that stupid ship!

Yeah, all Tech 3 cruisers need to be updated, however, as they're missing the thruster glow that all V3 hulls seem to have.

Most of the Tech 3 Cruisers have been updated a little with each iteration of the engine since they've been released.
The Tengu also recieved some extra love simply to get the Launchers to show properly on them, the changes are subtle in some instances with some of the electronic sub-systems actually being completely recreated.

Still the Tech 3 Cruisers, Teir 3 Battlecruisers, Stealth Bombers and Rookie Ships are now special cases.
They have been designed specifically to take advantage of Normal Mapping and Shaders, while the other ships gained Normal Mapping most of this is based upon the Bump / DOT3 Mapping used in DirectX 8. So they are much flatter with a greater reliance on the Vertex Normals.

While I think many of the new V3 versions of the models are quite nice, unfortunately these are simply patch jobs that will not translate easily as we move to DirectX 11. Eventually CCP is going to have to completely remake every single ship in the game that isn't already designed to take advantage of the performance at this disposal.

The reaper unfortunately shows the major issues here with the system they are currently employing, or rather the feel that they have lost touch with what that the Minmatar ships are suppose to be very bare-bones orientated.

Thankfully the Hound does justice to how Minmatar stuff should look like, it is after all part of their charm.
