Are you seeing white effects, ships or other white anomolies?

We've been looking into a bug that some of you are experiencing where an effect or ship or other asset is displayed as a white texture. The most common representation of this is a white concentric quarter circle which is shown during an explosion effect.

We believe this issue is caused by the graphics card depleting all the Video Memory available and we'd like your help to confirm this theory.

If any of you have experienced something like this a few minutes of your time would help us out a lot.

We'd like you to do the following:

1) Download GPU-z from this url : http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2137/TechPowerUp_GPU-Z_v0.6.2.html
2) Start GPU-z at the point the issue occurs or before you start playing Eve.
3) From the Graphics card tab make note of the Memory size
4) From the Sensors tab make note of the amount of Memory used

Finally please reply using the following:
1) Time from starting eve to the issue occurring
2) Are your graphics settings low middle or high?
3) Graphics card
4) Memory Size from GPU-z
5) Memory Used at the time of the issue occurring

I had this problem persistently on the Scorpion model only, it was cured (so far) when I formatted my HDD and re-installed windows.

If I get it again, I'll post back.

I can confirm that this issue already happens with current version of EVE (the playing version). I usually run into this problem with stations, they are completly rendered in white once this issue occurs.

Sounds like the bug that have one or more of the following effects:

From what I can tell it happens more frequently by the number of jumps you make.

Whenever the bug occurs RAM usage by CCP Exefile is around 1600-1700 MB (high graphics no AA Resource cache enabled HDR enabled load station enviroment, all effects on except camera shake and drone models)

I haven't used GPU-Z yet though.

The white squares stuff only happens to me in planetary mode, all planetary structures are not painted and instead we see white squares in their place.

It only hapens to the first (any) planet I open and if I open another planet the problem is fixed until I log and relog.
This happens only from time to time and not everytime I log.

I have the latest drivers for a ATI Radeon HD 5800
Intel Core Quad Q9550 2.83 Ghz
8GB memory
windows 7 64

Some tips from a fellow programmer: when I open the planet it takes 2 seconds and the grafics stalls, I checked it wasn't the CPU but the disk. It seams to be the bottleneck and the problem cause for this for some reason I think the texture wasn't loaded because the disk didn't delivery it on time, maybe a time out somewhere... hope it helps.

hrm, this should really be stickied in GD tbh, it's a current problem on TQ and won't get much visibility here.

I'll get gpu-z, but it's happened to me a few times already so I can tell you you're probably on the right track with the vid memory issue, just undocked 3 clients and only have 50mb graphics memory remaining, that's with 2 pods and a BS sitting outside a station. Palit GTX470
I've noticed this problem occurs after I load some high asset scenes, eg l5 mission fighting caldari, lots of missiles and rails flying around. Sometimes I'll need to warp an alt in and that has to load the whole scene as well, this is where I'll start to notice weird things, torp explosions showing white and only half there, HM/Cruise explosions showing white and expanding forever like torp explosions do.

The sheen on the ship/station where HDR would usually show, sorta seems to suddenly get too much HDR and bleeds white into surroundings.
Alpha layers don't render correctly when this issue starts.
Gates have the weirdest effects, they continually loop for me, except the effect sorta looks like a huge white spinning glowing flower thing in the middle of the gate. I'll try and fraps it.

Anyway problem resolves itself with a relog, replicate by multiboxing and warping to high asset scenes with a few clients.

There should be a rather awesome pic here

It happens for me regularly at around 4-5 hours of play. If I don't shut it off, the planets and nebula are even erased and left with an ambient pinky-orange colour (in Heimatar).

I've got 8GB of ram and 768MB of vram.

The continuous growth of the amount of ram required suggests to me that there's a memory leak somewhere in the graphics code.

The white boxes where parts of the planet surface don't get rendered is a pretty old bug - it was going on last fall when I was heavily into Planetary Interaction. There wasn't much rhyme or reason, you'd just bring up the planet on a low-settings client and parts of the surface wouldn't render until you exit the planet and come back in.

While probably not helping you out a lot I had this occur on a few seperate occasions with my MSI GTX460 Hawk Talon likely confirming your theories:

While in a big fleet shooting a tower everything was fine and graphics running good. Suddenly a fleet cynoed in while we at the same time got bombed by 10-20 bombers with lots of explosions. My Eve client litterally twirped and until I relogged all explosions, cyno and gatejump animations went all white and I had artifices on the right side of my overview. Stations went invisible only giving away the position with 4 big white spotlights... Relog = Everything is fine

I had this happen a few times since - all triggered by suddenly having lots of explosions and cyno animations...
My key signs are invisible stations, all white gate jump animations and explosions.

Only happens in Eve, Temperature is fine, solves immediately with relog.
Happens so rarely I doubt I can reproduce :-(
Good luck

I know that every time I cyno away from a station on TQ, the whole area explodes into white circles and the client freezes for a moment, it looks kinda like fireworks but I know it's a graphics bug

I've had this issue several times already, altho the most recent one was during the masstest and that was the quarter circle where every ship exploded into a giant bright white quarter circle.
I've also had that when I jumped gates I had a giant almost cyno like effect but then bright and white and completly screen filling and on the other side the gate cloak caused my ship to be very white, and again, bright.

So far clearing the cache fixed it all the times. but next time ill run it.

So tested on TQ with GPU-z Eve was running fine until about 5 hours straigth then the bugs Came up.

GPU memor 2560 Mbyte

GPU memory usage as bugs occour, 654 Mbyte so still within acceptable limits and alot free space left still.

using GTX 570 2560

So far i don't think the glitches are caused by VRAM overflow it seems.

ALso heat from the GPU was within acceptable limits about 75 degrees Celsius if it reads Celsius in the Tool ( i hope )

bout the same thing for me. 5 hours in around 650MB of memory used, white stuff starts happening. First time its really happened to me

I saw that too; those were supposed to be ship death shockwaves I believe. Smartbomb effects weren't being animated, either, although they weren't whited-out. Can't report on GPU memory usage at the time because I wasn't monitoring that though, but I have 1GB VRAM.

Ive had graphics bugs on singularity, usually upon undock, but not always, where either my entire screen turns white except for part of my ship, or i get these bright green lines, sometimes straight, sometimes circular, across the entire screen. My fps also always goes down to less then 1 when this happens.

Edit: forgot to mention, redocking and undocking again always fixes this.
