It's been Winmatar for a long as I can remember. Gallente were also decent back in 06/07 but were hit by repeated nerfs (to drones, damps, speed [via rigs] etc). Amarr got boosted in 08 and also became good. Caldari have always been the worst at pvp aside from a few awesome ships (Falcon then Drake then Tengu). Minmatar subcaps have been good for as long as I've been in the game but they have the worst caps.

go amarr

By the time you make it to be awesome, the 'best pvp race' will have changed. Take a look at this char...I made it in 2008 for pvp purposes when minmatar was the bottom feeder in pvp and amarr was king (well, the plan didn't end up as first thought but still..), time has passed and minmatar is one of the best pvp races now.

Thus any new 'awesome' dedicated pvp char should be the current least desirable pvp race.

So next pvp fotm races I reckon it'll be amarr > gallente > caldari > minmatar, with each being dominant for about 1-2 years.

Yes you can reuse the name, before you biomass though why don't you just retrain them?

In hindsight my post should have had more psssshhhh

Every race has its pros and cons. You should pick with regards the style you want to fly:

Amarr: Great kiting frigates for solo, great and tanky BC/BS for fleet.

Gallente: Great ultra DPS frigates with blaster + drones for solo, very great Cruisers + BC (Vigilant, Myrm) for solo.

Caldari: Bad frigates, except for well fitted and flown Hookbil. The almightly Drake and the hated ECM... and finally the incredible 100MN-Tengu. What else do you need to tease the hell out of your enemy?

Minmatar: Fast frigates, good to run if necessary, but also insta-dead once webbed. (Don't forget the almighty Dramiel) Fast cruisers like SFI, Vagabond with same issues like frigates. Rapier is fun... BS are poor in general.

So first choose how you want to fly and then choose your race.

Be a man, fly gallente. Nothing more fun the fitting a blaster ship, downing your alcoholic beverage of choice, and yelling obcentitys at your targets in local whilst aproaching at the speed of a wet fart

Amarr or Minnie are both solid choices. They both have decent long and short range weapons. Amarr is probably easier to train for since its just armor and lasers aside from a couple assault missile boats. Minmatar you'll eventually want to have missiles, cannons, shield, and armor all trained to get the most out of their ships. That means training even more support skills.

Simply it is Minmatar and Caldari, and here is why. They are the only two races that have the ability to choose between all damage types for ammo. Gallente are restricted to Kinetic and thermal, and Amarr are restricted to EMP and thermal. Both Caldari, and Minmatar can use EMP, Kinetic, Thermal, and Explosive ammo damage types. If you fly Amarr or Gallente you do not have the option to change ammo in combat to do a different damage type to break someones tank. So you either die or run.

Really not that big of a deal.

The damage projection of the Amarr is unmatched in any kind of BS slugfest. They also shoot pretty lasers. Although the new missile effects are going to be pretty kickass too.

Character race means nothing since Apoc; it's merely an L3 entry-point for that race's frigates. As for the SHIPS, everyone has different tastes, so I personally don't think there's a "best" at all. Great indy ships (Gallente Iteron), great toe-to-toe ships (Wolf, Hookbill, Curse), great exploration ships (Pilgrim), gun boats, missile boats, lazor boats.

Pour coffee, flavor to taste.

How do you want to PVP?

What type of roles in a fleet, or style of solo pvp do you see as the pvp style you want to explore/develop?

Arguably, each race's ships have different pvp styles they're in some cases, more suited to.

Do you like to be overestimated or underestimated?

How frequently do you want to get fights?

How do you intend to get those fights?

fly amarr, and train projectile turrents!

You lol... but you'll see.

This requires armor tanking skills, projectile weapon skills, and that's it.

Once trained, you can branch out to missiles/shield, and then cross train winmatar.

Thus you are set up for Archon/Revelation and.... you can fly winmatar as your character develops skills. In the mean time you can fly arty abbadon for heavy fleets, or cap stable/forgiving ships with active tank/mwd.

Best race? Guns Smile

I started out Caldari, usual route flying missions in a Drake and then a Raven. Then I cross trained Minmatar and gun skills.

I very very rarely use missile boats any more - not even for PvE (since losing my Tengu in a.....misunderstanding with some Guristas)

For me training the gunnery support skills was the best thing I ever did. It seems to take forever but every increment makes a big difference.

To answer the question directly? I suppose Minmatar is the stock answer - I love flying different ships tho depending what I am doing. Min - Gal - Amarr - Cal is probably my honest order.

Good luck

Edit: It's worth thinking about what class of ships you want to fly and researching the different races. There is no "one size fits all" really - which is how it should be.

Aaaaaaand relax.
