Are awesome house pets. My bunnies hop around the house freely, nothing harmful, bunny proof.

They use litterboxes, and basically like to hide all day until we come home, and then they hop out to greet us when we call for them. It's cute you have to call a few times because they are always asleep : D They kinda fall over as they wake up, pointing their ears up and around like radar dishes : ) Then they figure out the creatures who give them treats are home and hope out side by side to beg!

Also they come out for head pets, but ti does take about a year to really train and tame a bunny into trusting you, but I like how hard it is to get them comfy with humans : ) They come out and lay on the floor when guest come over : )

yay bunnies!

anyone else own bunnies? : )

Same here. It was a while ago, but an old neighbor of us used to keep them, he had several albino ones in cages he was very fond of, but eventually he got too old to take care of them, and a lot of food was had (better to eat them then kill them and throw them away). I cannot remember the taste, but it was more or less the same as a hare I guess.

But, all in all I think a bunny is better suited for pet then food.

yeah, chinchillas are pretty fragile. i remember the class pet in my second grade class was a chinchilla, but it died over the summer somehow. they're pretty mean, too.

We read up on them...

Oy!!! They don't have a rib cage.. Can't live in temps over 85 deg F and have very sensitive digestive systems. Damn, hindsight is 20/20.

Yeah, in fact it's kinda interesting how it's a pet you can have for 6-8 years, and then you can eat him. It's very.... old fashion idea that throwing him away is a waste even if he is your cute bunny pet friend. It's like respectful, like how people used to keep animals, instead of how they raise animals now, for food as soon as they are big enough :/

So yeah, better as pets, to be cute and cuddles, but, still interesting how most people then see it as disrespectful to throw them away once they are too old/ die naturally.

You've given me a lot to think about.! :P my bunnies are only 2 and are my 1st bunnies, so I never thought about what I do when they bite it in 4-6 years.

My sister and I had pet rabbits when I was a kid. My sister's bit her and she had to have stitches. We didn't have pet rabbits for long after that . . .

Sounds like you shouldn't of owned a rabbit. It's actually terribly difficult to get a rabbit to bite you. Kids should not have pets.

The bunny adoption place actually drills it's customers on why they want a rabbit and if they say "oh it's for my 7 year olds birthday!" she actively tries to stop them from buying a rabbit. It's like people who pick up cats on their backs like a baby. Such a stupid thing to do.

Sorry, it's coo you were kids. :P but don't base them as pets off of your experience of owning one as a kid.

I disagree with the kids should not have pets bit and would rather say kids should not have certain kinds of pets. I personally grew up with rats or gerbils and they all did just fine wile we had the family dogs and cats. But rats and gerbils are quite easy to take care of where rabbits and chinchilla's are a fair bit more maintenance.

That's fair. Like different kinds of fish. Or even some dogs, which kids shouldn't own. I grew up with pets too but I grew up with like 7 pets at a time so I guess I was raised to tame animals. :P
