I'm on Mountain Time, so 11am for the Pacific, 2pm for the Atlantic, etc. I'm seeing about 34k online at the moment. Is this low or normal, by historical standards?

Pacific time here. I usually start seeing the peak between now (11:06 AM) and 2 PM

Despite my posting prowess I really am terrible at this game

About 3 years ago when we saw the online users going near 20K we were waiting for the hamsters to explode, or the champagnes to pop.

No it's not a low by historical standards.

I'm not online yet, give me a second and we'll see that pop past 40k.

It is lower, but expected when you consider the bans, people dropping farmer accounts, etc. This summer expansion hopefully will result in more retained players and a lead up to a feature which will help peak it out.

To quote Lfod Shi

The ratting itself is PvE. Getting away with it is PvP.

Diablo III, live as of the 15th - give it some time. RMAH prob won't be what people expect it to be. but, give it some time.

We have lost 6 to D3 at the moment. They'll be back. You never "quit" Eve.

I lied :o

D3 is perfect example why EVE should never be a PVE game since competition is high and careberas move instantly when they only smell a better farming grounds.

I'd forgotten about D3, so that makes sense. But it isn't EVE, so the 'draw away' event just doesn't offer the same craving satisfactions as EVE does. P

No, CCP needs to compete on both fronts; you can't have a pvp only game unless downsizing your company is the goal. It's a stupid goal because the pvp only crowd is small here. eve is a 10 year old game; they need to do both at this point. If they don't, then I dare them to throw out all pve (what pve they have) away.

We probably saw a dip when SWTOR came out, I remember the post last year from players saying how bad it was and how they had come back to EVE though.

WoW holds your hand until end game, and gives you a cookie whether you win or lose. EVE not only takes your cookie, but laughs at you for bringing one in the first place...

OK, but you can't compare swtor to Diablo III. D3 doesn't suck and has a huge dedicated following that goes back to the original Diablo. People are going to be on both games for a very long time, is my guess.

The main thing is, Diablo III doesn't suck.

Until they realize nothing can beat D2.

Not even D3.

Space. It seems to go on and on forever. But then you get to the end and a gorilla starts throwing barrels at you.

No it's not a low by historical standards.

"About 3 years ago," right around the turn of 2009, is when we saw EVE shatter its PCU records with 55,000-60,000 players on at peak time, and almost twice the players online during off-peak hours, like during US evenings. Logging in after 9 pm GMT-5 today usually shows me a player count in the 19,000-23,000 range.

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:
