Hello all and a long time no see!

I have finished my 4 year enlistment in the air force and I am highly considering reviving The Bank of Eve!

Now before the trolls begin raging and screaming scam I'd like to make it clear that as of this exact moment and post I am not asking for any isk. I already have plenty of funding myself. Right now I am only looking for opinions and conversation. Ideas on how to proceed.

I'd like to know if there is anyone out there who would like to collaborate on the subject of reviving the bank of eve. (was featured on the eve client news page at one point). I'd also like ideas on creating a system to protect account holders money and assets. If this has been worked out since my hiatus or not, i do not know. The banks original reason for taking a temporary hiatus was my military responsibilities. That being said, I am interested in restoring the safe, healthy banking environment that existed before I left.


Obstacles to overcome.
1. Rebuilding a functioning website to handle deposits, withdrawls and automatically process interest earned month to month.
(All my original coding is gone due to my other laptop turning into a fruit juicer) Don't ask! :/


If anyone is interested in helping revive TBOE I'd love to hear more.

How much ISK do you have now for this project?

Great, all good questions. Let me answer these 1 by 1 then.


You had 10b between 3 investors in 2010 ("four years" ago)
I don't know where you got that figure from but it's ALLOT smaller than how much was invested through sale of stock, my own personal financing and that of my air force colleagues.

As I stated since I am not asking for Isk or investments I will not disclose how much isk I have. I want it clear from the beginning I am not asking for money. Not looking to be the next manipulation/scam bubble.

What was the "safe, healthy, banking environment" that you refer to?

Easy access to your banking information 24/7 via the website.

Auditing through weekly exports of the sql tables to google docs to allow board members/auditors access to data without risk of those records being manipulated by possible thieves. Checks could be made but no manipulation to the active data could be made.


How many customers did you have?
I currently have a column of 562 in my google docs file so I will assume that we had 562 before I deployed. This was the last export made from our sql tables.


What happened to their investment when you took a hiatus?

Anyone who was not able to put in a withdrawal request prior to my hiatus should in theory be able to get it all back. I won't be able to reactivate your account with a google docs spreadsheet. But I will give older customers the chance to cash out old balances or to make a new account and transfer previous balance's over.


How has your 4 year enlistment finished in 2?

I had already done around 2 years prior to creating that post. Obviously it's not my obligation to share every facet of my personal life with the world. I also HAD and obligation due to my job in the air force not to disclose many details. And to some extent I still do. It's the nature of the job. Also due to over manning in my career field I was offered a chance to turn my 6 year enlistment into a 4 year enlistment, keep all my signing bonuses. It's not anyones business but it's something I can share since honesty is the best policy here.



If anyone else has any other questions please feel free to ask. Again I'm only here looking to find a way to revive it and breathe life into a project that at the time I enjoyed developing very much.

/me yawns ... first 3 threads in MD read , back to CAOD/GD/WTS we go .TEST loan , bank revival ..... might as well sttay docked in jita.

It's nice that 4 years on you are prepared to give theoretical consideration to paying out your old customers.

Nobody needs a bank in EVE. Nobody ever did need a bank in EVE. E-Bank was a very expensive bit of RP for a bunch of morons. How's that for conversation?

i've been posting on and off on various chars actually, but I sold one and got banned on the other for trolling. I guess the mods don't like it when you stir the pot about ccp soundwave being a secret goon plant because all the tinfoil kings in the GD subforum actually believe it.

I 2nd that

but thats only because of the current game mechanics. If somehow ccp could create a method of doing this that reduces the possiblity of scamming or perhaps punishment in some way, I think a bank could then work but i am not smart enough to think of such a way.

A eve bank idea is a very novel one, I think everyone would like to see it but knows it just can't be done becuase eve is full of scammers and lies and thats how it should stay. YEPPI HURRY

what if ccp could make it possible that a loan amount is limited to you toons SP

so say 30m sp toon can take only 5b
40m sp only 7

and if default or scam that isk, a certaina mount of Sp is taken from ur character, which then lessers the value of ur toon and overall you loose out.

crazy idea i know. but it would be funny

Has you ever went so far as chose to go even use want to look more like do?

I am working at a bank full-time IRL and was also thinking of attempting creating a bank and banking system, too. I'd be interested in a collab on starting a bank, but I doubt you'd be willing to agree to my terms if I were to work with you. I am working on an accounting degree and management degree atm, and I have begun brainstorming how the bank would work. I would like to initially have the bank only be for Corporations and then we could move into banking with individuals, too. I would also like to try to have a system that stimulates the use of Corp shares and dividend distribution, but that will be a bit tricky. I have some ideas that could make the bank system great, but they might require asking CCP for assistance. I was working on an engineering degree for two years, and I have some programming education (mostly just C++, but I can learn web development).

My Terms:
1) One of my characters is CEO.
2) We devise systems to help prevent fraud, theft, etc.
3) We rename the bank, possibly including "New Eden" in the title. Referencing/associating TBOE on/with the new bank is acceptable.
4) If my proposition with EVEalopalous progresses, then it must be acknowledged and associated with the bank. (Subject to change)
5) We do not have a large staff team. Should be kept below 12 players for a while to help prevent theft and scamming.
6) No player receives more than 15% of the Bank's profits as a salary. (Subject to change)
7) I create the Corporation that is to be the bank.
I may add more to the list, but I feel these are reasonable and anything I add will be reasonable, too. If you are interested, just add me as a c

Thats cute.. you think you're important.

On a more serious note. Banks, even with good intentions, just dont work in eve. With CCP supporting scamming and massive thefts, people just wont take the risk. Even "secure" investments are at risk of human error, yes T4U. Its something that is cool to do and run, but without the proper tools from CCP, it wont work in our sandbox.

correct. the fundamental mechanics and incentives do not exist. any "bank" would be an organization constantly striving against inherent pressures to destroy itself, and, therefore, a farce

spend your time and effort on better things, kiddies, banks are a dead end
