Hookbill costs 30x more than the Merlin. Awesome ship though. Not cost effective.

There's a 6 launcher destroyer but it is Amarrian. (wtf). The Heretic. The Caldari destroyers are trash.


It used to be able to fit a full spread of launchers and then got the nerf bat.. People had it with 7 standard launchers.. thats pure rapesauce to a frig.
Shame they screwed it though.. Even the Heretic is a mix platform and lacks..
The only t2 destroyer that they gave a full spread of guns is the minmatar.. which of course they get the goodies.. Its not called Winmatar for a reason..Whats worse, they are the dual platform race and everyone else got the mix but them.

Gallente is way better with hybrid, why they want to mix caldari with them and make them suck at is, is beyond me..They just need to fix all missiles make them useful in pvp, turn the caldari hybrid ships to missile..
If you want hybrid, go gallente.. they are far better at it.

On SiSi, Merlin lost it's resistance bonus for the damage bonus, essentially making it crap as optimal bonus for small blasters is lulz, and rails have excessive range and don't need the optimal bonus.

Damage/Resistance would make the Merlin an awesome brick with blasters.

Have you guys seen the new Incursus though > > 10% bonus to reppers + more fitting + 2 low slots O.O

Id kill for an upscaled Merlin that was the size of a battlecruiser and got a 7.5% HAM Bonus and 10% Missile Veclocity bonus. Easily the coolest looking hull in the game.

As much as i adore missiles... -really, just breakdown and train hybrids, ewar, and drones too!

(Simultaneously - yes, a T1 destroyer with launchers would be very much appreciated. With an ewar bonus perhaps?)

Merlin is pretty good right now.

Having 3 guns, a utility high and a damage bonus would make it a bit FOTM and overpowered for a t1 frigate.

The Merlin shields and shield resistances are fantastic. Dont fix something that is not broken. If you are going to change anything on the Merlin it needs to be the addition of missile slots. Not the deletion of shield resistances for dps upgrades. I can bring up my dps by just adding another missile slot.

Newsflash, newbie:
1. The resistance bonus on the Merlin is coming back, last dev post I saw.
2. How exactly do you claim to be a Caldari pilot yet be so blissfully unaware of the dozen or so hybrid ships that make up part of their lineup/philosophy?
The Kestrel is the T1 missile frigate
The Merlin is the T1 gun frigate, and is being buffed to better fit this role.
It's really that simple. (For people who aren't you, at least.)

The missile ships in the Caldari lineup significantly outnumber the turret ones, why exactly do we need more of them? (I mean besides to save your pathetic ass from training gunnery 1)

A third of the Caldari lineup is gunnery based. Dry your tears and deal with it.

P.S Caldari pilot here who has skilled both guns and missiles.

It's the story of a guy flying some Dominix.

He couldn't understand why he couldn't fit bigger guns than 350's (meta of course) and full rigs/mids of cap rechargers/energy rigs.
"WHat the heck? -my battle cruiser has more dps than this crap and what the heck is this drones bonus? I want guns not drones!!"

I believe the real problem lies with the fact that the Merlin has two missile slots but no bonuses for them. It seem as if they were added as an afterthought. Couple of options might be...
1. change hybrid optimal to 5% and add a 5% bonus to launcher rate of fire
2. replace both missile slots with a turret and change to 7.5% hybrid optimal 5% hybrid damage 5%, keeping shield bonus
3. Leave it as is.

Bit of a shame about the lack of a utility high but for an extra low I certainly can't complain there. CCP has done a damn good job with this one.

To be honest it's not like either were bad ships, but the split weapons did make them significantly less newbie-friendly, and really what's the point of a non-newbie friendly T1 frigate?
